This book had great potential and was going really well for 80% of the time. But the ending just fell flat. This plot was implausible af. Having ready too many thrillers, this one didn’t work for me at all.

The book is well written. I strangely liked the writing even though it is one of the most criticised things about this book. To begin with, the story starts slow, progresses soon.Shelby, a local town woman disappears and following that her Doula, Meredith (mother) and Delilah (child) disappear too. The suspicion runs around through town about what may be have happened.The revealation occurs in parts as the story builds up, twisting the tale almost twice with some unexpected gasps but then it gets pretty simple and absolute soon enough. I liked the book, couldn't guess yes but wasn't shocked or taken aback with the release of the secret. The book gets rather gloomy when the family drama kicks in as unleashing begins, so be prepared for portions of grieving and loss. The end is happy and warm.

Despite these multiple narratives, Kubica does a great job of tying the story together and building a great mystery. The novel contains powerful emotions in the storytelling with everything from shame and guilt to shock, torment, and horror. The storylines are full of suspense with major twists that are disturbing.⚠️child abuse, suicide, domestic violence, birth complications, miscarriage, mentions of sexual abuse, rape, postpartum psychosis, abortion⚠️

The story, the characters everything was great but I felt it was dragging a lil bit. Otherwise a very engaging story
