Q: Can this be used for pear wine?

The simple answer is yes, but Safale S-04 is beer yeast. I would recommend Lalvin EC-1118 wine yeast for pear wine.

Thank you for your inquiry. The ABV tolerance of the S-04 yeast is approximatley 9-10%.

Q: will this produce an alcoholic beverage?

It is an ale yeast. Used correctly, it is a great beer yeast, though it can be used for any fermentation. It has an alcohol tolerance of 9-11%. If you are looking to get into brewing, YouTube has many channels. My favorite is City-Steading. Cheers.

Q: Will it be ok to use Fermax to rehydrate this yeast?

That's a great question. Under normal conditions, you should only use water when rehydrating yeast. Add yeast nutrient to the rest of your ingredients before adding the yeast to start fermentation. Thanks!
