For mountain lovers, this reads very well. We have read volumes 1 and 2 so far and will definitely go for more.

The Summit of the Gods is a fine example of mature `thinking persons' Manga that has very little in common with most trash `Seinen' Manga out there.The Summit of the Gods is a story of obsession, adventure and mystery which has been translated into English very well and published with great care by Ponent Mon / Fanfare. The quality of the printing and materials for the book are top-notch and the 300+ page count for each book provides plenty of reading matter for your money.If you are the kind of person who has dabbled with Manga but considered it a bit immature and disposable - you should give Jiro Taniguchi a try. The Summit of the Gods is an impeccably drawn, thoughtful and exciting story that deserves a wide readership. Purchase with confidence.

I ordered this title on the merits of a few brief descriptions online and was not disappointed! For anyone with a love of mountaineering, travel and adventure, this graphic novel is a real find, spanning history in a tale that charts decades of climbing rivalries, high-altitude tragedy and the spectre of the past. The artwork, especially the breathtaking panels depicting the climbing scenes, is consistantly superb, and the script translates well as the mature and thought-provoking story bounces back and forwards in time, ultimately setting up far more questions than answers. Thank goodness then for the subsequent volumes due for release in the coming months. Imagine 'Into Thin Air', 'Touching the Void' and even 'Tintin in Tibet' rolled into one and you get a pretty-much perfect afternoons read.
