I'm not going to lie I've been very intrigued by seeing this new shampoo and conditioner in the form of a bar of soap but totally skeptical. I decided to pull the trigger because curiosity got the best of me and I put it to the ultimate test. I use it after getting my hair dyed and not letting my hairdresser rinse out the dye. Yup, I went full in. I was very impressed with how much foam and suds you truly get by rubbing the bar on your hair. My hair felt clean and not overly dry as shampoo does when cleaning it before using the conditioner. Honestly, truly shocked so far and read my comment about the conditioner. I cannot tell you anything about the smell because sadly I have lost my sense of smell over the past couple years and never regained it.

I love Ethique bar shampoo, and while Ethique has recently changed the shape of their bars, primarily to differentiate between their products, I was happy to see that this was still the old square bars (July 25). This variety is particularly good for hair that tends toward greasiness. I really love this shampoo for travel - handy and compact for international travel, and lasts enough washes for any trip you intend to take. I wash my hair daily and a bar lasts around 2 months. They lather up easily minimal products, and I find that it rinses really well from my hair.

This was the third bar shampoo that I have used and it was by far the most sudsy. It did not leave a residue and I loved the all natural product. As I have long hair it took a while. But… the results were amazing. I felt it got ride of previous shampoo and pool chlorine built up all in one application. My hair felt clean for several days. It did not have a strong scent, which is my only complaint.

This treats my hair much better than kitsch. It is not too drying but that could be beause its repairing and not specifically for cleansing. I'd be too scared to try that one!I gave it a 4 so far because my hands are quite small and the bar is so big i can't hold on to it to lather! Which isnt a bad thing at all for the price it just meant i ended up just rubbing it directly on my hair. Which dried it out a bit and also prevented suds from reaching my scalp (i have fine hair,but a lot.) So my scalp doesnt feel clean.But its 100 times better than kitsch and with bar shampoo it takes time to find the right technique to get the best out of it. So maybe later i'll change the review to 5*

This is a review for the Ethique Gentle Unscented Shampoo Bar with Cocoa Butter. There are reviews for other Ethique shampoo bars here as well so I wanted to be clear.After deciding to reduce my use of plastic bottles, I started trying out solid shampoo and conditioner products. I tried a few different brands before deciding to try Ethique and I started with the St. Clements for oily hair. I've had an oily scalp and skin since puberty, but now I'm much older and am also growing my hair out, so the oiliness is all at the top of my scalp. As beauty experts tell us, stripping all oils just makes your body produce more, so I've been looking for a shampoo that doesn't do that. Unfortunately, the Ethique St. Clements dried my hair and scalp out severely to the point where my scalp itched all the time and the returning oils made my hair greasy again really fast, especially at the front where I'm growing out my bangs.It was frustrating to throw out a barely used bar of expensive shampoo, but I did it and bought the Ethique Gentle bar in the new quarter moon shape because my scalp was so, so unhappy. During my first shampoo with it, I could feel my scalp relaxing and my hair felt soft instead of "squeaky clean" (i.e. rough and dry). Combing out my wet hair was easy without using a conditioner and my dry hair was much softer than it had been. The quarter moon shape of the bar was also much easier to use than the square shape and washing my hair was all around more pleasant. But the true test came after several days when my scalp no longer itched and didn't produce a lot of oil. The hair at the top of my scalp was still fluffy and not oily after several days. I've only washed my hair twice so far with the Gentle bar, but the difference is huge. What a relief!It would be awfully nice if Ethique made travel/sample size bars of shampoo so we could test out different types without spending a bunch of money and maybe wasting product. I'm pretty sure a box of all the types in a small size would be a worthwhile product - friends could even share a box during their hunt for the shampoo that works best for them.

Works well, but not as well as its Ethique counterpart, Heali Kiwi, in terms of scalp build-up and need for continuous washing. This could be due to my combination hair, but that is the beauty of Ethique’s product line- you shop for what works best for YOU. This product? For me, 3 stars. Heali Kiwi? 5 Stars.. FOR ME. Try them out and see what works for you, I’d suggest over a 90 day period, with a clarifying shampoo in between. Don’t forget to condition, and with shampoo bars I always, ALWAYS Lather, Rinse, REPEAT. That second wash can change your entire haircare scene.

This is wonderful! I have also transitioned away from bottled shampoos and now exclusively use this bar shampoo. It effectively cleans my hair without leaving it feeling oily, which some other shampoos have done. My initial bar lasted for six months, which has resulted in considerable savings. I also appreciate the positive impact on the environment by reducing plastic bottle usage.

I absolutely love this. I've tried a lot of shampoo bars, and this is my absolute favorite. It lathers up so well and leaves your hair smelling wonderful. I've actually had people compliment me on my "perfume" (I don't wear any)! Plus, it lasts forever.
