Story of Edgar Cayce: There Is a River

Astounding read
I really enjoyed this book. It was written at a time when Edgar was still alive. This is a story of the amazing Edgar Cayce's life. The ups and downs. The later 200 or so pages, give insights into what came through on the readings. Which is worth the book price alone, in my opinion. A truely enlightening read, of the life of one of the most accurate psychics. If I have to find a complaint, it would be on the type size. As the lettering is really small. And at times the narative reads a bit dated. But dont forget that this was written when Edgar was still alive. He passed in the mid 1940'sBut don't let these comments put you off. A brilliant book, that will be read again, and again

One thing I do know
While I find most of Sugrue's excellently written biography unbelievable, I believe it. There is clearly far more to the seen and unseen world about which we cannot yet, if ever, fully know. (We know little of medicine, the body, the brain, the soul, the universe, the entire cosmos.) While the phenomena present in case histories involving Cayce have a decidedly New Age feel to them, I cannot fault the man for ever profiting of his ability, or leading anyone to harm - an charge which can unfortunately be leveled at people bearing Jesus' name within what we could call orthodoxy proper. As a fairly conservative Christian I am far happier about the fact that Cayce's abilities really helped healed people's illnesses and injuries than I am about the bizarre ancient cosmology that comes spurting out of him during a lot of the later readings. But the readings are what they are... Do they aim to deceive mankind with religious falsehoods while at the same time healing our physical bodies? I don't know, especially as Cayce's readings' talk of the 'soul cycle' leaves me unimpressed, especially when they are shoehorned into interpretations of Jesus' teachings and parables. At any rate, Cayce's story is fascinating, and I sure am glad that he helped as many people as he did without profiting (his photography career supported him). I'm more disturbed at the corollary of these strange benevolent tales: that there must exist people with a clear spiritual channel that use their gift for monetary profit or for outright malice instead of healing. Cayce himself met and fell out with such men with such motives. So we can if we want mock the readings, but not the man. Edgar Cayce was after all a good Christian man, photographer by trade and Sunday school teacher by choice, who struggled himself with the ambiguity of the readings real source. As a reviewer, I won't draw any conclusions for you (how can I anyway!) but I will leave the skeptical conservative Christian with what a man born blind said in response to the Pharisees' rage that he was healed on the sabbath (John 9:25 NIV):“Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

STRONG THOUGHTS ON HIGHER REALMS.
Inclined to believe this man's experiences, having had a few out of the ordinary experiences myself, some very uplifting and some not so.The power of God is without precedence, His word is TRUTH.Edgar Cayce was an extremely gifted man, a man I would like to have met.I also adhere to the principle of observing and listening carefully to people around me, and giving people the benefit of the doubt, .We are put on this earth to learn, and this process lasts a lifetime, the power of our Heavenly Father guides us if we ask him for His guidance, and his angels are constantly near.Edgar Cayce was a man who went through a lot of turmoil in his life, he observed, he enquired, he enthused, he believed. An incredible man.

Interesting
This book makes you question Cayce and his true legacy: fraud or magi?

What a life!
Great book if you are a Cayce fan or getting to know him! I had no idea about his life and this gives a good day to day view, all very normal, putting aside his tremendous psychic ability; shame he died so young but great that the foundation runs to this day!

fascinating tale
This book is an entertaining tale of a fascinating man and his strange powers. The author keeps the reader's interest throughout, with flowing prose. The Edgar Cayce phenomenon is impossible to explain, but his "readings" on the universal spirit and consciousness are as relevant today as they were at the time.
