To prevent it from sliding on the counter, I have it sitting on a silicone pot holder. Works great. I love that it is a standing type rather than a clamp on because I can use it in various places in my home. I have had to tighten the center rod portion once, other than that, no issues whatsoever.

assembly required
Gorgeous but you need to find a video tutorial to assemble it. Comes in pieces, dirty.

What a great yarn winder (swift)!
I bought a different yarn winder made out of metal, and very disappointed. It was very difficult to use to open the spokes to stretch to the size of the yarn skein. Putting it back to a flat position for storage after I was finished was equally as difficult. This wooden yarn winder is a breeze to use! It easily expands with a simple pull to fit any size yarn skein. The wood makes it sturdy enough to work very well without any clamp to hold it still. It is well worth the money if you have ever struggled with a skein of yarn saving lots of time being frustrated.

10 out of 10 would buy again
Worth the money. if you have hanks of yarn this will pay for its self in saved time. It does not come with instructions but I have put photos of how you get it in the box and photos of each one put on then all put together. It is made of really good hard wood.

Assembly instructions would be nice
Imagine my surprise while unpacking all the pieces of both the ball winder and the swift and nary an instruction to be found anywhere. I finally got it put together and some of the pieces can’t be placed properly because the screws are too small/the screw holes are too big. And let’s not even talk about the perpendicular table clamp. There’s no way to clamp the winder to the table because of how the clamp is placed. Other than that, and with some finagling, the ball winder works. I suggest rubber pads for both the winder and the swift to limit them sliding over the table.

Almost too pretty to use
This is a great yarn caking tool. The entire apparatus looks like something you would display on a coffee table, and it is fun to use!Assembly instructions would have been useful, even just a diagram showing where the pieces fit together. This is a great tool to have if you use hand dyed fiber for crafting.
