Q: We have used product for a year now and works good, but just read that it is dangerous for cats. Can it be used outside around cats?

We have an indoor cat, so it doesn't apply to my situation. However, in your case, Themacells use a chemical called Allethrin. They use a synthetic version of a substance found in Chrysanthemums instead of Deet, which is carcinogenic. Thermacell highly recommends keeping the lantern away from uncovered food during operation (hmmm, that's scary!) Allethrin is also highly toxic to fish, bees and cats! So don't use it around your cats!

I think because it has fuel with it. You can’t be sure it’s packed safely.

Q: How many batteries does this use? What size?

This takes 4 qty AA batteries for the light feature. The repeller is powered by a butane cartridge.
