I have not had any problems, and even use it with my herb teas.

Q: Can you put this in the dishwasher?

It’s recommended not to put in dishwasher as the silicone seals on the screw of the lid (to seal it) and around the plunger (to stop granules getting into the drinking section) can deteriorate with the intense heat of the dishwasher. A simple quick rinse is all it takes to clean it tho

Q: Does it make the tea taste of metal?

We've only ever had coffee in it but there has never been any metal taste.

Q: Struggling to see the benefit? could you not just buy a thermal flask, make your cafetiere coffee at home before you leave and put it in?

Yes, of course. But you can also make a cup in the office if only a kettle is available. It's also very quick to make just before you rush out the door.
