Fan can make a noise
Fan can make a noise so if it is not kept away from active areas, it could annoy people.

Fans quite noisey!!
This switch feels solid and seems well made but when you switch it on the noise from the fans is quite loud. I had mine on a wooden shelf so this probably makes it seem louder. I will be going back to my 8 port switch for now (fanless)

Beware - Noisy and Unreliable Cooling Fan
This switch is functionally very capable for those who do not need to manage their switch in every little detail. You just plug it in and connect PoE and non-PoE devices and it works. Rack mounts are provided. I have rated this so low because, be warned, the cooling fan is very noisy. No, it's louder than that, it's VERY NOISY. The vibration from it goes through the rack and is transmitted to the building making it doubly irritating. The problems with the fan don't end there. After 6-months of continuous use the fan started to fail, making an even more irritating noise (bearing completely worn out). I had to replace the fan with a new, quieter, more reliable one. The replacement meant an outage of 40 minutes to make the repair but is quicker than getting the thing exchanged. All is well again. For the high price of this switch, it is completely let down by a cheap and nasty piece of cooling fan. Let's face it, a switch like this could be in service for 10 years (that's 20 fans at the current rate of replacement).

All good otherwise!
Quite noisy. Not any more noisy than other similar switches i expect but there's a couple of small fans inside that make themselves known! All good otherwise!
