Supermarket pod selection dwindling/discontinuing? Excellent alternative.for an "old" 2 pod/MUG senso machine
I bought these pods as I noticed the range of options of the official pods dwindling in our local supermarket. I did not wish to own a machine I couldn't use or one that would cost me the earth for replacements. I cheated a little when I used these pods the first time, I used the coffee grounds from a competitors pods to fill these as I wasn't sure how much you needed or how much to pack in. As other reviewers have said, you will need the "old" style double pod machine as these filters will not fit in the shallower 1 pod trays. If you can use the MUG sized pods in your machine this filter should work for you. The coffee tasted great however I guess it depends on the coffee grounds you use. I'm really happy with this as it offers more variety and means I will be prepared and still be able to enjoy using our machine even when the supermarkets discontinue the range and stop stocking pods all together...

Been using the same brand for 20 years
20 years ago the pod had a rubber band around so it could seal properly to the holder. This did change, so advice is to put an elastic band around it (the one from the spring onion bunch haha). Even if the lid tears off after a few months you can still use it for a few years. Overall it still makes a good cup of your own choice coffee.

Fantastic coffee pod alternative
I love my Senseo but I'm frustrated at the lack of variety available when it comes to choosing a coffee to use in it. When I noticed Melitta Permanent Padfilter Senseo. Use the coffee of your choice in your pod... when browsing Amazon I knew I had to try it.The pods are very simple to use, just unclip them and fill with the ground coffee of your choice. Place in your SenseoPhilips Senseo HD7814 Black Coffee Machine using the double pod holder, and go!!Once you've got your cup of coffee, empty out the used grounds and wash the pod ready for the next use.At £3.49 plus the coffee of your choice, taking into account the cost of the official Senseo pods the Melitta filter soon pays for itself.

Different product sent to that pictured.
There are 2 different types of Melitta Padfilter - they look very similar but are different. The ones I needed are those pictured, but the ones sent to me were the earlier type which don't fit all machines - the lid won't close. This happened twice from this same seller. I though I'd make the error first time, so ordered again. However, seems the error isn't mine. Please note, the product sent to me (twice) was not the product illustrated. There are clear indications on the packaging (top right) what the compatibility is, and the design of the product itself is also different.

best use
After a bit of practice - I found that to increase strength of coffee and get the creamy foam on top (same as when using bags) you need to fill the padfilter to capacity so that it almost doesn't clip shut. Don't worry about it opening when in use cos when the senseo lid is closed - this presses down on the padfilter and seals it. Coffee was much stronger - more like the real thing. Also - I always heat milk slightly before adding to coffee and always use fine ground espresso coffee. Much better than the coffee bags as although they are convenient, the coffee they produce is weak and bland. They also cost too much. I don't find the cleaning the padfilter too much trouble - its worth it.

Not great
I have a senseo machine, and this didn't quite fit. A single will fit into the double holder, but then the pressure is weaker and you don't get such strong coffee - and no making two cups at the same time, which isn't a huge problem, but is a pain. Sadly my pack arrived opened and possibly a return, but Amazon sorted that efficiently and quickly and that has not influenced my review. I personally will only use if I have ground coffee to finish and no pads - it wouldn't be something I'd replace - but if it fits your machine it's a good gadget which is why I've given it 3* and not 2*

Fantastic!
This Pad Filter is the reason why I bought Senseo machine at first place. When I was checking other coffee machines (Tassimo, Nespresso etc) and was weighing my options; this filter made my decision easy. I don't like Tassimo's choice of coffees; they are not intense enough for my liking. I really like Nespresso but again you are limited with their choice of coffees. With this filter, I'm not limited with Senseo/ Dowe Edgeberts coffee pods; I can use any ground coffee brand, flavour and intensity. The only downside is this Senseo machine doesn't make anything else; just pure proper coffee (no latte; cappacinos or chocolate stuff). But its not a big deal for me as I don't drink anything other than proper coffee. Thoroughly recommend this product.

Worth the money
I wasn't too sure about these when I purchased them, and initially found them a little fiddly to use. I must point out I am registered blind. However once I had worked out a system which involves transferring my ground coffee to a flat sealable container and working over that, so excess grounds would be caught, I find they are really good. I have four of these at the moment, so make a batch up and keep them in a container till ready for use.Four isn't enough so I will probably get another four shortly, s I can make mmore up at once. I was a little concerned that the hinges might snap easily, but I've used them since the 6th of march, (now april29th) and they seem fine. They do save money on the Senseo Pods, and can use much stronger coffee blends which I prefer. One word of warning, I did let some grounds escape once and they blocked the Coffee machine, which sounded as if it was going to explode. I had to clear out the coffee filter holder which was a bit of a faff, but all ok again now.So yes I would certainly recommend them. My four rather than five stars is because I feel the instructions with them could have been clearer.
