This is almost a novelty item, but it works well, so has become a valued item in my kitchen.It takes a bit of time to get used to a technique to get clean cuts, but I've used it for the last couple of years every time I have a boiled egg. :-)

The instructions for use of this device are very poor and most people will write off a number of eggs before they get it to work properly. I have seen other reviews on this item, but I did not find anybody revealing what the sprung section of the device actually does. It does not create a vacuum, as one reviewer ventured, it is simply a sprung hammer to make the cutter dig into the egg without completely destroying it.I have found that the best way for me to make it work is to put the egg into an egg cup - thinner pointed side down. Place the gadget onto the egg and hold it in-place gently. Lift the round knob of the gadget to the extent of its travel and let go of it. Do this once more and then gently lift of the shell. It does not come off easily, just tug gently until it comes away. I user a paper towel to hold the hot egg while I do this last part.Good luck

I brought this for my husband as he struggles to crack raw eggs without either breaking the yolk or shell going everywhere. It does the job perfectly and we also tried them on boiled eggs and again, it does the job it’s built to do. With the boiled egg being hot I just held it in a tea towel rather than sitting it in an egg cup as some reviews say it doesn’t work well/breaks the cup etc

Doesn't seem to work on Bantam eggs - probably the wrong shape? Also struggles to make a clean break on ;home grown' eggs as the shell is possible thicker? Anyway, it's a good gimmick to play with and has a quality feel.

Doesn't work on very large Burford eggs. Smashes the whole egg!

I was a little skeptical but bought it anyway as my son loves eggs and soldiers thought this would make it easier and fun! First try, works perfectly! Feels like it's good quality too, not flimsy and also compact - easy to store.

This works pretty well, but needs practice. If the spring is fully retracted, you can easily break the whole egg, leaving a bit of a mess. With a couple of tries, it's possible to calibrate your pull so that a fine crack is created on the shell. Even so, it is rare that the shell cap itself just comes off like the picture on the packing, so you still have to pick the cap off by hand. I find that with duck eggs, it needs a full pull and is usually successful.I use it every time, but my wife thinks it's just a gadget and uses her spoon to bully the egg into submission.
