This book was amazing at teaching and knowing how to apply ACT principals with my clients. It was easy to understand and not lose the clinical approach

A theory and practice for the present
What’s fabulous about this book is that it isn’t just a collection of techniques cobbled together around a loose philosophy. This is solid critical analysis based on a long history of philosophical and empirical development. The techniques stem from the theory, they are not just thrown together on top of a disconnected one. As a result, this is less a cookbook and more a thoughtful jaunt through humanity; what makes us think, how we do our thinking, and the root of our suffering.I’m not sure I’d recommend this to just anyone, as the philosophical writing can be a bit heavy for some, but anyone coming to this should walk away having been challenged and made the better for it.

A dense text with lots of psychological theories
Kindle. Unless you have a background in psychological research, it's likely that you will find this text dense and difficult to understand. While it's helpful to have a better understanding of the foundations of ACT, the book appears to gear toward an academic audience or practicing clinical psychologists. Overall, I did enjoy the book despite it being a bit challenging to understand on the theoretical side. I particularly enjoy the explanation on thought defusion and different kinds of self. I consider that part of the book particularly helpful to understand why ACT can be helpful for so many people. In short, thought defusion is a process of detaching oneself from the content of one's thoughts, allowing the person to experience reality as it is (mindfulness) and see the broader context in which they operate (taking perspective). The end result is expected to be more experiences of inner peace, calm and wisdom.

ACT is the way to go
Throughout my trainings in ACT I have learned and then utilized the skills, mindset and experience to change not only the lives of my clients but myself as well. This book highlights the importance of the practice and also how to utilize, through in-depth knowledge and training, how to practice for yourself and as a practitioner ACT.

This is it!
I am a clinical psychologist in private practice from Chile and I just finished the book.I have been an enthusiast of mindfulness practice for a while, so I am interested in all the new approaches that throw some mindfulness in the therapy mix.But as I read the book, it soon became clear to me that ACT is not just a regular-therapy-plus-mindfulness-elements. On the contrary, the authors present a detailed and thorough description of the philosophical and scientific foundations of the psychological flexibility model that ACT promotes, all of which clearly show that this is a new and coherent model of human functioning. After reading this excellent book I have to express my admiration for such a great work and my enthusiasm, which I think is the same enthusiasm that others have felt and that the authors themselves describe in the final pages of the book:"The enthusiasm comes because people are excited to find a model that applies to themselves, is broadly applicable to their clients, is based on a serious basic research program, and is reflected by the community itself."If you are interested in learning about ACT... what are you waiting? buy this book NOW!

The best therapy / meditation / mindfulness book / course I've ever read
The best therapy / meditation / mindfulness book / course I've ever read. Worth the price (less than a copay for a single therapy session ...) and gets at the deeper roots of a lot of psychological distress than most things. We get so tied up in trying to fix ourselves that we forget that just letting it be and moving on might even be an option.Amazing format: It's a series of exercises to guide you through the process, much like an expensive shrink might do. It's not just telling you something. You experience it every step of the way (as you do the guided exercises). Buy one for each person who needs it. It's really more of a workbook than a textbook and it's worth being able to mark up and fill in as you go along.

Excellent intro depth review of ACT
Found book very thorough and well presented with material that could be integrated into my psychiatry and psychotherapy practice. Covers all aspects of ACT with good examples and well referenced. I've now read it through several times and always find to idea to integrate into my work.
