Draper 64747 Carpenters Awl

Not especially impressed
I'm no expert, but I understand there are at least 3 types of Awls or bradle. A pointy type a "blade" type and a screw type. This is a pointy type. I only want it to start screw holes for door handles. My last one wore a hole in my palm.Although my doors are very standard internal doors, this was not particularly useful. It took a lot of pressure to create the starter hole. I believe if I had exerted any more force it would have bent the somewhat flimsy spine. The warnings I read about the tip seemed to imply it was lethal. It's no more lethal than a screw end.The "instructions" say not to use it as a screwdriver!!! It would be difficult to turn a screw with a point!I believe I actually need one of the other types, both would make the hole easier to produce.Probably OK for very soft wood or other materials.

Useful well made tool
What you would expect - a good tool (nothing extraordinary but good) and typical Draper quality. No complaints.

Small object saver
Great little tool for making holes ready for screws etc. Bought mine to use in the school setting, really good for getting small objects out when they have been jammed into various places!
