Quality watercolour paints DO make a huge difference! From their blendability to their opaqueness.... it matters! Cheap no brand watercolours often to not blend or have the transparancy of a quality student grade set such as this Winsor & Newton Cotman Watercolour Paint Set, they can often have a big shine to them when dry too. This is why this set should be every begginners starting point. Whether a beginner, a student, intermediate or an artist on a budget these paints are perfect!These tubes may only be 5ml each but this is highly pigmented stuff and a little bit goes a long way. This set comes with a rather nice purple and pink too, perfect for painting flowers such as scottish thistles.I believe getting the right quality paints from a reputable brand such as Windsor and Newton from the start will give the budding artist a big head start in the world of watercolours.This set has a range of wonderful colours. I've included my most recent painting painted with them. i have also painted flowers and bees so far. I don't know if my painting is a very good example of what can be achieved with these paints, so i suggest you try them for yourself!

Another great product from Windsor and Newton.I must admit I am a huge fan of Windsor and Newton and have been using their paints and brushes for many years.This set has a great collection of colours although there’s no white - which seems quite an oversight. It’s not a problem to me as I already have a white made by them but something to keep in mind if buying for a present (you might want to buy a tube of white as well)Great pigment, perfect starter kit or an additional kit for someone who loves to paint.Great valueHighly recommended

When buying paints it always pays to buy quality pigments and from reputable manufacturers.Buying cheap toy shop watercolours will only hinder your learning and frustrate you.The biggest problem with many cheap watercolours are the pigments are poor quality meaning the colours are not great and also they can be very grainy or lumpy leaving bits of pigment 'grit' in your washes.Cotman Watercolours are Windsor and Newtons budget range, with the Artist range being much more expensive and in theory higher quality. While this is true the Cotman range is still a good choice, especially for a beginner. They are far superior to most other budget watercolours and in some cases I sometimes find Windsor and Newtons student ranges are better than the artist ones.Anyway for the price of this set with the range of colours you get it's a great little set for anyone wanting to dabble in a bit of watercolour painting. If you find you are good at it or just enjoying it by all means get a tube or 2 of their Artist range and see for yourself if they are worth the rather hefty price jump from the student range.

A really nice set of water colours, you get 10 tubes of 5ml , they are only small but a little of this paint goes a long way.You get a nice array of colours that can be mixed too , these are a budget option and they would make a good beginners set for someone just getting into water colours, (like myself)The paints apply really well and the colours are really rich and vibrant, they really stand out.I'm new to water colours but I'm a big fan of Winsor & Newton paints in different art mediums.I have a lot of Winsor & Newton art supplies, they are a brand you can rely on, good quality at a good price.So I would have no problems whatsoever in recommending this water colour set.

My partner loves painting with watercolour and particularly loves that style of art. He thinks it's quite a difficult thing to replicate and finds these Cotman paints perfect to practice with. The hues are lovely and the price is great for what you get.Pros:• Cheaper alternative to pro level paints, but with high quality pigment• Good range of colour: they can be blended to whatever shade you desire and the colours are• Wet paints: my partner likes tubes of paints as opposed to trays as you can get more depth of colour for heavier use• Quick to rehydrate: if your paints dry on your pallet, they will rehydrate with a bit of waterCons:• The pigment is quite heavy: whilst high quality, it is difficult to get good dispersion of pigment across the page when using a wet baseThis is a good starter set of paints. It covers a range of colours and has enabled us to create some really pretty pictures - even I've had a go! The box is nice and so would make a good gift if you know somebody that is getting into watercolour painting. Great to practice with, dries quickly and mixes well: recommended from a novice painter.

This Cotman set is a very well balanced selection of pigments, with a good intensity of colour. I would definitely recommend.
