Q: can these gloves be used to handle hot items like potholders, such as removing a hot pot from a fire

No they will melt. I have melted holes and lines in the fingers pulling the hot slugs out of a metal hole saw. I now use a pliers to avoid ruining my gloves prematurely.

Q: Anyone tried these for rope work, such as belaying or rappeling?

Haven’t used with constant rope use but good general light to medium use gloves. I use these leather gloves daily and they wear very well with med to heavy use. Q: Are these good for hvac work?

I haven’t done hvac as a career but doing my own stuff they hold up. I was going through a pair of gloves at my job every 1-2 weeks and I got sick of buying gloves. So I found these and gave them a shot I have had them for about 2 years now. They are the best gloves I have ever owned. Granted now they have some holes in the fingers and are thin in some spots but I couldn’t be happier with them. I highly recommend them. For me I had the fast fit ones which I like better because it doesn’t mess with my watch as much. But I would definitely get them if you need a solid pair of gloves.
