A high quality, well designed, purpose built charger at a very reasonable price.
Definitely a money saver! I've been saving my alkaline batteries for some time in anticipation of getting a charger like this. I reviewed several models here and most had plenty of negative reviews when it came to recharging alkaline batteries. This is the only model which had mostly positive reviews. I've been using it now for 24 hours, after receiving it a couple days ago. Being sure to read to owners manual first, I've been recharging my AAA and AA batteries, which I go through like crazy. Anyone who has a ROKU streaming device knows how the remote eats batteries fast. My impressions? While it takes a bit longer to charge them, because the voltages involved are lower to avoid problems it is very effective. Batteries measuring 25% charge were brought up to 100%. The unit will charge all types of batteries except for Carbon zinc, and lithium. Always follow the plainly written directions in the manual for good results. So far, I'm really pleased with this charger and recommend it to everyone who's interested in saving money on their alkaline batteries.

buy it!
An "old school" type charger so allow a little extra room to use. Works good.

A better charger
Although the cheap plastic lid broke a "hinge" after about 3 uses, this seems to be a better charger than my pervious lower tech chargers. Recharged batteries seem strongly charged. So far so good.

Awesome!
This battery recharger is awesome! We bought basically to charge some alkaline batteries but the fact that it can charge other is an awesome plus. It’s lightweight and compact which we appreciate. As soon as we received it, we put in our d size alkaline batteries that we wanted to charge and it charge them pretty fast. When the charge completed, we used them for a massager and it worked flawlessly and like new. This recharger will save us a lot of money in the future! Also, we love that it has a little component in the back that the cord can be stuck into. Overall, this product is awesome and a very decent price! Highly recommend and will definitely save us on batteries for quite some time!

Popular Mechanics Battery Recharger - Not Worth the Money
I had thought surely if Pop Mechanics put their name behind something, I could depend upon it. Was I ever wrong. Does it work? Yes and No. Sort of at best; at worst, not on your life. I have tested this charger EXTENSIVELY, on all kinds and brands of acceptable batteries except the ones already rechargeable, from AAA to D and the 9 volt. Actually, for some reason, the 9 volt did exceptionally well, mostly charging to well above new battery voltage, over 10 volts. However, only a very small handful, maybe 3 or 4 out of the dozens of others that I tried to charge, ever came up to "new" voltage. (New Alkaline voltage is always at least 1.60 to 1.63 volts or even higher. About half never charged beyond what I consider to be replacement voltage, around 1.25 to 1.35. Nowhere near what would be considered by any measure to be "recharged". I always checked the voltage before placing the batteries to be charged. Anything down around 1 volt never recharged at all. Some of them that were around 1.4 volts, still usable, never charged much if any beyond that. The ones that did either fully or partially recharge, have not yet been used to see if their now "recharged" life amounts to anything at all. Just because they "recharge", doesn't mean it's a done deal, if they then fail to perform for a reasonable runtime. They could last for 5 minutes for all I know. Over all, I'd say it was a complete bust. Half or less recharged at all, and of those that did, only a small percentage recharged to "new" levels. For the amount of money this thing cost, it's just not worth it. The rumors you heard that non-rechargeable batteries really are not rechargeable, is true. For the most part, and who knows exactly why a only few work, non-rechargeable batteries remain just that; NON-RECHARGEABLE. And besides all that, one of the battery slots had a very sticky spring follower that made it almost impossible to pull back to remove the battery, though it was easy enough to put the battery in. Even if the charger had worked, that little snafu would have made the charger a very questionable deal. So much for Chinese workmanship. I am very disappointed in Popular Mechanics for not thoroughly testing this charger before putting their name on it. Shame on you, Popular Mechanics, for falling victim to the rechargeable primary battery nonsense.

charges non rechargable alkaline batteries
it is heavier than I expected, which is good. charge time foe AA alkaline batteries is much shorter than I expected. unfortunately, non-rechargeable batteries when recharged only go to about 1.3-1.4 volts and don't last nearly as long as when new.I guess that is to be expected so I'm giving it 5 stars just because it will recharge then and also works great for real rechargeable batteries. if you need long lasting batteries foe life dependent devises stay with new alkaline batteries.
