LP GEAR Stylus Timer for Turntable - Black

Like the headline says - It's so simple, it's GENIUS! The Stylus Timer is a product that I didn't know I needed but when a friend introduced me to it, I was dumbfounded why no one had created this sooner.Using my (apparently dusty) Technics turntable, I simply press the start button when the needle drops onto the record and press stop when it lifts off. In the past, I would kind of guesstimate how much usage each stylus had on it but in a world that relies on data, the Stylus Timer puts exact information at my fingertips.After recognizing how easy and simple it is, I started thinking about the problem. Even if you were able to keep a general tally of how much time you used the turntable, there are a few issues this solves.1st - the longer you use the turntable, the more "a minute here and a minute there" add up to an hour here and an hour there over the life of the stylus.2nd - if others in your household use the turntable as well, their passion for keeping accurate track of time used, may be less accurate than yours.To it's inventor - Bravo! You've made me a fan...

Very useful for keeping track of hours of phono stylus use. Works very well. I do wish that it had rubber feet so it wouldn't slide around on the shelf while pressing the buttons.

The Stylus Timer is awesome! It's about time (so to speak) that someone produced this much needed item. It's brilliantly simple and well constructed; I don't have to be concerned anymore with getting the most from my stylus now that the Timer keeps track of my usage. The display is easy to read at a glance and short of starting and stopping as I listen to my vinyl, Stylus Timer automatically takes care of the rest, a perfect record of stylus usage. The internal memory stays intact if I need to switch the battery and I can reset it when I get a new stylus. Can't believe someone didn't come up with it sooner. Highly recommended!

This simple device works as described, and I am appreciative that someone is trying to come up with a solution for stylus hours tracking. The problem I have with this device is that you must remember to press the start and stop button, and I often forget. I suspect others may as well. The solution needs to be more automatic. Since my TT motor stands on its own (belt drive VPI), and is already plugged into a filtered power supply, I added a watt-meter inline with the motor's power cord. One that keeps track of the total time that power flows through it. This method probably adds a minute or so of time while the motor is on but the stylus hasn't dropped yet (like when cleaning the vinyl), but this method is WAY more accurate than having to remember to start and stop a timer. It remembers the total time after a power interruption, until you manually reset it. And having this device in line has not caused any interference (YMMV, of course). FALSE ADVERTISING! The packaging states retains memory when changing battery…IT DOES NOT!! Starts back at zero which battery change! Seller does not respond to phone calls or e mails on this issue!!

Great solution to the issue of how much wear and tear we place on our stylus! Simple yet elegant, and the creator is responsive and helpful. Highly recommended!

This takes the guess work out of how much time, wear and tear is on your stylus. The Stylus Timer is very nice quality in person, better than pictures. Trying to remember how long your stylus has been in service by guessing is risky to your record collection. I knew mine was getting close, but now I will know for sure.

This does the job of timing hours and I like that a battery change will not lose the count. My only problem is I sometimes forget to turn off or on - not a fault of the product, but be aware that it is easy to forget. I wish it had an annoying LED option.
