Calcium vs D3
NOW products are very very good (no argument there, I'm a repeat buyer of NOW products), but this review is just about calcium citrate products in general.Calcium citrate is more absorbable than other forms of calcium supplements. However, there has never been a study that actually proves that calcium supplements work to prevent bone loss. If you eat a well balanced diet and take Vitamin D3, a fat soluable 'vitamin' (FYI-not a vitamin, but a group of neuroregulatory steroidal hormones that help with absorption of calcium and phosphate), you are far better off. D3 has to be taken with an oil to be absorbed. I use the NOW D3 with olive oil. it's a very good product.

truly highly bioavailable
Powdered calcium citrate is expensive. This is the cheapest calcium citrate powder I could find. It dissolves easily in water and has little taste, except mildly chalky. I used to mix it in applesauce, but the easiest way to take it quickly is to put your dose in a shot glass, fill with water, stir, and sip quickly through a straw. Refill a second time to get the remainder. In applesauce it gets thick and chewy and is harder to get down.Now. Bioavailability. Research shows that calcium citrate is more absorbable than calcium carbonate or any other oral form. It is easier on your stomach and does not need to be taken with food. I’ve struggled to get me calcium levels above 7 since I’ve been pregnant. Since starting this and upping my dose to twice daily, my calcium is finally around 9. The recommended dose is a teaspoon and a half—I have a half tablespoon measuring spoon and use a heaping spoonful for each dose, twice a day. I take in between meals since I have to take a K-Phos supplement with each meal, and phos will mess with calcium absorption (and vice versa).Calcium citrate powder is less user friendly than a simple pill, but for maximum absorption it can’t be beat. Highly recommend. (I am reviewing this under my husband’s name).

No more choking on tablets!
Just put 1/2 tablespoon powder in water twice a day. No bad taste. Keep swirling as powder settles. I trust NOW Foods products to be of high quality.I will buy this regularly.

So much better than pills
I already take two other forms of calcium and I wanted to get a well rounded calcium intake from different sources. I need a ton of calcium due to a med that causes bone loss over the years. This product is virtually tasteless when mixed in a protein shake. I'm sure it would probably be the same when mixed in a glass of juice. A little chalky..? Yeah, but it's calcium and they are all a little chalky. This one is not bad at all in that respect. I think it is due to how fine the powder is. Pretty much the consistency of talcum powder. I do mix it into my shake container in/over the sink, not on the counter for less mess. I also add other stuff to the shake so there is always a bit of fallout. This is a great option for those of us who hate taking pills.

Better than swallowing more pills!
Calcium citrate is supposed to be more easily absorbed by the body than the calcium carbonate found in the majority of over the counter calcium supplements. What is so nice about the pure powder is that it is "one less pill" (or 3 or 4 less) to swallow. It mixes easily into juice, tea, soup, cereal and other wet/moist foods and drinks. It does NOT mix easily into a thick milkshake type smoothie or liquids that are extremely cold or extremely hot. It turns clear liquids cloudy and settles out if you let it sit for some time. The trick is to remember to measure it out and mix it in!!!Always keep in mind that you won't absorb any form of calcium if you don't also have the proper combination of magnesium, zinc, Vitamin A and Vitamin D3 in your body. If you and your professional health advisor have determined that you need supplemental calcium, you could check to see if you should also add the other complementary vitamins and minerals or not.I believe this calcium citrate is sourced from corn, although I have not contacted the NOW company to specifically ask that question. In any case, it gives me diarrhea if I take the full recommended amount - as does anything else made from corn. It doesn't bother my husband. You need to know your own body and what you can and can't tolerate.NOW also makes a combination Calcium Magnesium Citrate powder which is awfully high in magnesium. You could possibly use 1/3 of that plus 2/3 of this to get your magnesium. The amount of magnesium required and/or tolerated by each person is different.

Zero Flavor and Rapidly Dissolves in Water.
I mix 1.5 teaspoons of this powder with about 2 ounces of water and then rinse and swallow with 2 more ounces of water to get rid of the slight chalkiness. There is no unpleasant aftertaste. My doctor has prescribed this as an Oxalate Blocker to foil my body's production of Calcium Oxylate Kidny Stones. 1.5 teaspoons in water just before eating a meal is a pretty easy thing to do.

It’s ok
It’s okay. But to use 1 and 1/2 teaspoon is a bit much to get the required 600 mg daily and found the drink to be pretty chalky. Found another brand that only requires 1/2 teaspoon for 1000 mg daily which is okay for me. Hoping this helps up my calcium level as I have osteoporosis.
