Horrible diameter tape
I have been buying these d tapes for 14 years and the quality has slowly been declining. This is the last time I will ever buy one of these "forestry suppliers inc" d tapes. I ordered this one in early December and it started grinding a little bit around christmas while marking a big black walnut timber sale. After no more that 500 trees it literally jumped apart on the ground while I was winding it up. I strongly Reccomend ordering something more durable. I will be exploring my options and will never buy one of these tapes ever again for the rest of my career.

Excellent quality
I bought the black tape and it was as described. Linear side was in terms of feet, with 10ths and 100ths of feet, while the other side was in terms of inches, with marks for 10ths. I don't know if the other reviewer received a different item.The item really deserved a more in-depth description than it was given by the seller. It does have the hand crank for retracting the tape at greater lengths, but it also has automatic retraction that works fine at shorter lengths. The crank also appears to have some sort of torque limiter in it, so it isn't possible to over-wind when you get to the length where automatic retraction works again. If you place the hook in the provided notch and push the bottom of the hook/top of the tape farther into the slot, it will lock the hook in place, too.It's not Prime eligible, so it is worth noting that shipping was fast.Also, this is made in Germany, if you were wondering.

Quality
I rarely leave product reviews, but with this tape measure I felt it worthy of one. It is very high quality, durable and much better than expected. It reminds me of how things used to be made. Highly recommended.

Small light weight
Great item saves weight over std issue items for forestry work. The only issue is that the tape pin does not stay in designated spot and no way to hook on vest or I would have given a 5 star review
