Works great on Linux, "out of the box". It contains a Prolific PL2303 chip, just like almost all the others. Worked the first time. It's a standard RS-232 serial port, and works at 115200 baud (the maximum standard speed). I did not test any faster speeds.Haven't tested it on Windows or Mac.One caveat is that it requires the correct serial cable: either a "straight through" serial cable, or a "null modem" serial cable, depending on your device. These two wiring standards are incompatible, and it can't switch automatically, so it's up to you, to supply the correct cable! Buy one of each if you are unsure.The adapter is 9-pin male, so your serial cable must be 9-pin female (on at least one of its ends) otherwise you won't be able to plug it in. There's a helpful LED on the adapter that lights up when it's transmitting or receiving data.ATEN is better known as "Iogear" in the USA. Most of Iogear's products are simply relabeled ATEN products. Buy whatever's cheapest at the moment, either ATEN or Iogear, they are the same!Avoid buying a no-name serial converter, though, because there's counterfeit Prolific PL2303 chips out there that are unreliable or just don't work. Even though a USB serial converter is a generic product, stick to a name brand, like ATEN or Iogear, to avoid this.

Genuine ATEN item received in original packaging.This USB to serial adapter is listed to work with NexRemote. Snap to install under WinXP & works like a charm with Celestron NexRemote to control NexStar 8SE scope (Bought 2 / both fine). Included CD has drivers for Win XP, Vista, 7 & 8 as well as Mac, Intel Mac, & Linux. Items received have newer serial # & manual states will work with Win7 & 8, though not tested with either.Item shipped quickly & was well packaged. Although Tekonic is newly launched, since they are a fulfilled by Amazon seller I had little concern.

This is the 4th of the ATEN adapters that I have bought. The others are all still in service and working well. As I have new needs develop for this type of adapter I keep going back to the ATEN product. I have three different laptops that I control my telescope with plus I use one to attach to my weather station, all use the ATEN adapter and I'm very satisfied. I have no hesitation in recommending them to others. Great product.

the product arrived fast in good condition. The software disc with the drivers could be laid out a bit better, but some common sense and you can find the correct driver you need. Installation was quick. I had to reassign the COM port the adapter was setup on, but after that this adapter worked perfectly.I am very please with this purchase.

I have used other brands in the past with install issues or glitches with normal operations, but this adapter worked perfectly no glitches in install or performance.FYI (some of the install folders and files on the install disc are not named exactly as they appear in the manual, but if you know your operating system you should have no problems)

I have an older serial Ross-Tech VAG-Com cable. With this adapter, I am able to plug my cable into my laptop or tablet and scan my car's OBD2 port. Works every time without any issues. This is the only thing I've used it for, but this alone makes it worth the cost to me.

I use the Aten USB to serial adapters for everything from TImeMachines, to wind gauges, scoreboards and more. I purchased the three of the adapters from Amazon in September 2021 and they worked perfectly with my Windows 10 laptops. I purchased another 3 of the same items from Amazon in December and found they were incompatible with the same Windows 10 laptops. I checked the ATEN site and found "You might be using an old UC232A "chipset" version that is not compatible with Windows 8 and later OS." I was sold three older adapters.To check you have the current adapter, look for the serial number on the adapter. From Aten: "If the 3rd digit is less or equal to "9" (note letter such as A,B,C, etc... use new chipset), your unit has the older chip version. We recommend replacing your UC232A."The adapters I received had a number "6" as the third digit in the serial numbers. That meant my adapters were using the older, incompatible chipset.Another clue I received the older model adapter was the box included an installation CD. The new adapters do not include a CD.Hope this helps.
