Helped me pass my PAX NLN
I used this book right after I failed my first try on the PAX NLN pre entrance exam and it was a real life saver. I used this along with YouTube videos on each topic discussed and they both helped me understand it better. I was mainly focused on science and some math because I didnt do so well on them so my review is aimed towards those sections of the book. This book did a good job organizing each subject by sections and giving examples questions a long the way. For the science portion they did a good job explaining each subject but i suggest also searching videos about everything you read in this book so you can fully grasp what it is telling you. I also like how it includes practice tests so i can go back to topics I need to work on. I used this for about 2/3 weeks and had a good passing score. The longer you use it the better!

Very Good Review
Took the NLN on 6/12/2012. Scored 150 (81% verbal, 91% math, 86% science). All relative scores were above the 90th percentile. The usefulness of this review guide is going to vary from person to person. Some people need a refresher in science from 2 years ago; some have not taken it at all. For me, I was somewhat strong in verbal, very strong in math, and weak in science before reviewing. This guide will let you know what you have to study. I read every word of the guide, did every practice problem, and completed every test (By the way, the CD included with the guide are the exact same questions in the book. You are not getting anything extra with the CD). When I took the test, there were no surprises in terms of structure. The practice tests in the guide (when used under a time limit) mimic the actual test environment. This is good because you can save time simply starting the problems instead of reading the instructions. I ran right to the end of the clock in the math section because most of the problems were very wordy and time consuming (but not necessarily difficult).Verbal: Vocabulary and reading comprehension. The review guide will allow you practice picking out important information while reading the passages and managing time. It also highlights common questions (ex. What is the main topic? What is the best title for this passage? What can you infer from the author?). The vocabulary section will not help you that much. You will have to depend on your years of reading, schooling, media, etc if you want to nail the more complex words. Learning roots and suffixes helps marginally.Math: Easiest section. You learn the formulas and procedures and you can answer any question, just check your arithmetic (test takers tend to rush and make small mistakes in adding or subtracting). No need to study anything else.Science: The book helped the most in this section. While it reviews many many topics that will be on the test, you will run across problems that the book did not explicitly cover. For example, the book covers general information about electricity and magnetism, but my test included a quantitative problem regarding Coulomb's Law (which is a little more advanced than what the book gives you). If you're looking to perfect your scores, you will want to study each topic presented in the guide in more depth on your own. I took Anatomy/Physiology and Microbiology prior to taking the test and they helped me answer many fundamental questions.Overall a very good review guide. The most important part was that it shakes the nerves when you actually take the test. If you do every practice exam understand time constraints, it will allow you to feel comfortable with the exam structure come test day. Taking a test not knowing what kind of test you are taking is half the stress. Good luck!

Must Have!
This book was absolutely what helped me pass my exam with flying colors! I was so nervous about taking the NLN as a Dental Hygiene accelerated program entrance exam. It is a must to score high in hopes of being accepted into this elite program, and this book really explained to me how I should do that. I have never been a person that was good at math, or memorizing chemistry for that matter, but the sections of this book really teach you what to expect on the test, how to approach the test, and even how to manage your time on specific questions. The book comes with a disk which you can upload to your computer to help study from your laptop or desktop wherever you may be. For me, this is a major plus since I am not a huge fan of reading a lot (I tend to get distracted and bored). The disk allows you to customize tests to fit what you know you need to work on, and allows you to practice that as much as possible. Also, when you answer a question, it provides you with an explanation as to why the question is answered in a certain way, which helps retain common knowledge for any other questions that may be similar on the examination that you will be taking. I recommend this book to ANYONE taking the NLN. It is a LIFESAVER, and when you receive your difficult to understand score report, it helps you to understand that better as well.

MUST BUY!!
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is taking the test. I took this test yesterday, I scored an overall composite score of 136, with an 84th percentile in Verbal, 90th Percentile in Math, and 90th Percentile in Science. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't use this book. I literally studied every day out of this book for a month before the test, from cover to cover, 3 times and took each practice test several times while working 40 hours per week and in school. The only negative thing is that the format of the test has changed: 40 minutes for Verbal, 35 minutes for Math, and 40 minutes for Science with the 60 questions for Verbal, 40 questions for math, and 60 questions for science. The research questions are now included in the overall scores, which is good because it improves your score. They need to have a fourth edition with all the new updates. The science section had more ecology than expected, so be sure to study that!Again, this is a MUST BUY for anyone who takes this test! Use this book and answer every practice question, along with reviewing the tips for the exam, and you will pass! I would say probably 40 questions were used directly from this book on the exam.
