BRASS Accents Mail Slot, 3" x 10"/A07-M0070-619, Satin Nickel

I originally bought two different 3" x 10" satin nickel mail slots from two different companies to see which one I preferred to use in my new wooden front door at time of installation. I chose to use this one because it is well made, quality is good, size is right, satin nickel looks great and it came as described -with spring flap on the outside, frame on the inside and screws. It was easy to install. Very good choice!

Comes in many finishes and a couple of sizes. Very strong and sturdy with strong spring action to keep door closed between use. Very happy with products. I had a narrower mail slot so the one I ordered fit perfectly.

Great design and works perfectly

I finally installed my Brass Accents antique brass mail slot. It looks great and works well. It did not come with any instructions. I found an instruction PDF on the Brass Accents website, but they're minimal instructions. Including the instructions with the package would be great instead of my having to search for them. A template would have been a lot better.In the end, I managed on my third or fourth attempt to get the hole the right size. I originally was not taking the hinge into consideration.

If you have to have an in-the-door mail slot this product works very well. Because of the inside cover there's no wind noise, the spring loaded outside cover stays tight to the door and so far, the weather has not impacted the brass. I gave five stars, but would have preferred a gasket option.

I installed this in my Minnesota duplex rental property last fall and filled the door cut out area with fiberglass insulation for the winter since I was planning on remodeling it before renting out. Things changed and I have since recently moved into the lower unit while I finish remodeling the upper unit and the home's exterior. I just switched my mailing address so I removed the temporary insulation(finally warming up here!) to allow for mail to be dropped through this door slot. That's when I noticed all of the gaps on the slot's flap. There are enough of them and the corner gaps are large enough to allow for insects to get inside in the summer and cause a cold draft in the winter. Another con is without a midsection that fits in between the door's slot there are sharp metal edges that could easily cut anyone dropping mail through the slot. As a remodeler/carpenter the installation of the mail slot was quick and easy with a circular saw and drill. I filled down the sharp exposed edges the best I could rather than purchasing the midsection(sold seperatly and is pricey). Now my main concern is the air gaps surrounding the slot's flap leaving exposed to airflow and access to insects. Since the flap needs to be operable to insert mail I can't think of a way to modify it to fix the issue. Due to the flap's air gaps and the slots expensive midsection not being included I'm giving this item 1 star and do not recommend this product.
