I found it funny and it worked well for us. Some reviews mentioned issues, but I didn't have any. If you don't open the door quickly, it doesn't jump out as much, but it still gave us a scare!

Why did you pick this product vs others?:Set it on your coffee table or random places, scares nosy people!!!! I have the small one on my desk at work......people have to touch. ....it's scares the crap out of them!!!

First of all, just buy it if you made it to the reviews!! This is a mechanical piece not powered. To me, there is something extra special about that. Although sturdy there is a level of care that must be given. I prefer my box to not look so “new”. I’ve been carrying it with me to get a little more “worn” look and to work on delivery. You can’t just go to someone you know and say “open the box”, you will be disappointed as they know they’re being set up and end in half effect. Be creative with it and figure a way to raise their curiosity and lose inhibitions.Great value however I would love a larger version with a little more weight to it. So far I’ve had to be the one to “hold” the box while the participant operates the sliding board. The spider is perfect and could easily be replaced if you ever damage it.

The idea of this surprise box is good and initially functions as intended.The spider is great but is only pushed onto the wire inside. It does come off after a few uses. Another concern is the knob on the sliding top, it’s a wooden ball glued on. A dowel in the lid would have prevented it from falling off.
