Sports Car Racing in Camera, 1980-89

Parker is carrying on the "IN CAMERA" series (both F1 and sportscars) with Behemoth Publishing now that Haynes has dumped most of it's Motorsports titles. I'm a fan of 80's sportscars, racing photography, and this series and therefor biased. It's not a thorough detailed history of the era. It's not comprehensive. But I've always enjoyed the photos along with Parker's pithy commentary and recollections.

I really liked the 1970s F1 In Camera books and have an interest in the sports cars of the '80s, so I bought this book. The photography is good, but not up to the standard of the F1 books. Then I realized that Schlegelmilch had been the photographer in the F1 books, but not the sports car book. Ahh, I'm comparing to the best. Another let down was the book only covering the World Championship. It does not cover any IMSA races outside of of Daytona and Sebring when they counting towards the World Championship. But still a lot of interesting photos.

£50 is a big price for what is essentially a picture book. The pictures are great and have plenty to interest this sports car racing fan. The text however is even worse than that in the last release in this series. There is no doubting the author's fondness for the subject but his writing is appallingly constructed, anacronistic, inconsistent and peppered with inaccuracies. This is another product of a writing and publishing team that's in desperate need of an editor and a fact-checker.

As some of the other reviews, more in depth text woudl've been welcomed, but the selection of images is great.

I loved the book. I have all in the series and it’s a great addition.

Das Buch an sich ist toll (viele interessante Fotos), die Lieferung ging schnell, aber der Schutzumschlag des Buches war völlig hinüber: An mehreren Stellen eingerissen, an einer Stelle (unten am Büchrücken) war ein mehrere Quadratzentimer großen Stück sogar herausgerissen. Also: Buch 5 Sterne, Lieferung 1 Stern.

Bought as a BDay present - lots of pictures that I have never seen before from the early Group C era - for example the book contains images of the first Ford C100, Sauber BMW, etc.
