RAX Men's Waterproof Lightweight Leather Hiking Boot Venture

Shoes look great but I had the same issue a few others have had on the reviews and on the second day of tieing these shoes up, one of the loops for the laces broke and there is no way to fix it... it's like they dont even stitch the loops to the shoes or something but yeah, avoid this pair of their shoes, I bought a different style they have and they are A1, confortable and sturdy...this style is built wrong.

My main complaint is that the shoes don't hold up well. I've owned them for 4 months and 1 week. To be fair, i use shoes pretty hard. The first couple of months, I was happy with their performance, but I resisted writing a review so soon. They're comfortable and good looking. The soles had good grip and they were reasonably waterproof in light rain or shallow puddles. About 2 months in, the sole liners started falling apart. This has only happened to me maybe once with any other shoes I've owned, so I suspect it's an issue with Rax shoes; that said, I ripped the liner portions out where they were falling off, and it ceased to be an issue. At about 3 months, one of the orange lace ties fell off while hiking. At 3.5 months, the same happened on the other shoe and a hole began to appear. The tie on the tongue of one of the shoes also tore. As of today, they are no longer waterproof or even really water resistant. Water just soaks in. Honestly, love the look and feel of the shoe, and if they were more durable, I'd buy another pair in an instant.

Awesome shoes! This is actually my second pair as I loved my first pair a lot! The first pair I have are the non water proof ones and the 9.5 fit perfect. I ordered these in a 9.5 and they were to small. I sent them back for the 10.5 (no size 10 available) and the 10.5 fit perfect. However, after the first time wearing them the lace strap broke. So I sent them back without issue and now have a pair I'm happy with. Overall, I would definitely get another pair. I love the look and the fit is just right.

For sneakers, I generally wear size 10.5 but it depends on the brand (I wear size 10 for Adidas, 10.5 for New Balance, and 11s for Nike). The 11s fit perfectly. I bought these shoes for hiking around Hawaii and they did not disappoint. I put close to 40 miles on these sneakers in my first week and they have held up really well.Pros- Incredibly waterproof! Feet stayed dry even when sinking them completely in thick mud and deep puddles.- Not too hot for summer hiking. I was concerned they would keep my feet too warm on the hikes because they're waterproof, but surprisingly my feet didn't get noticeably sweaty.- Excellent grip - climbing over wet rocks was easyCons- Not great arch support, I replaced the sole with an insert- Laces are tricky to get right. When you tighten the laces, it's hard to keep the lace that runs across the top of your foot where it connects to your leg (like the bottom left corner of the "L" if the "L" is your leg/ foot). If it's too tight the shoe is really uncomfortable

I had these for several months now and at first, they were great. Really comfortable and great for hiking and all around walking. But, as the pic shows, just now one of the lace straps broke on the right shoe. It's pretty much worthless now since I can't tighten the laces on that side.I hope RAX offers some sort of warranty...

Planned a camping trip to go to garner state park here in Texas, needed a pair of hiking shoes for the trails and off the trail adventures my buddies and I get in. These shoes held up great, I wore them from 4 hr one to a 6 hr hike the next and so on for the next 3 days. Never felt like they were too heavy for me or too soft. The toe box isn’t metal but still made me feel like I was protected. The grip on these boys worked as expected a little above average I wouldn’t go climbing on slippery rocks vertically (I did anyways). My only complained is the tongue being very big and fluffy for no reason.Summary: If you are a amateur hiker/camper and have no plans on doing something pretty extreme like climbing Mount Everest. These are great.Pros:Comfortable for long hoursToe box wasn’t heavy nor too weak.Upper stayed durablePrice of course! My friends wore 100 and up dollar hiking boots from redwing to Nike boots. And I was able to be there equals wirh these.Neutral:Grip wasn’t as good as I would hope but better done my work boots it was an average 70 dollar pair of hiking boots. I still felt comfortable on unsolid ground.Cons:Tongue is too big and flappyBottom sole got creased real easilyShoe strings felt were too long.

5-27-19: These shoes are definitely NOT waterproof or water resistant. I only bought them for this reason that is why I rated them a 3 star. The shoes them-self are ok. They are comfortable AS LONG AS YOU BUY A 1/2 SIZE BIGGER. I'm a size 10 in every shoe I've ever bought but with these a 10 would have been to small. I got the 10.5 and they fit fine. The shoes are designed nicely but they will probably not last. I only expect them to last a summer season.

I do not recommend these boots!! They only have 4 eyelets, including the hooks, for lacing so you can't really lace them for a snug fit. Also the tongue is supposed to be sown to the boot to help keep debris out of the shoe but the sides of the tongue don't fold into the shoe and stick out plus is too low on the shoe to actually keep debris and/or water out of the shoe. I also didn't feel that there was much cushion between the insole and outer sole. They also didn't fit snug around the heel so when i tried to walk the trail in them my foot slid around a lot and felt like it was starting to blister, fortunately i finished the trail and got them off before they could blister. And finally, i had ordered black and that was how they were advertised but when i got them they were more of a navy blue, which is not the color i wanted or like wearing. I do not recommend these shoes nor will order this brand again.
