I replaced an old shower sump system in my 1994 Catalina 320 sailboat. Shipping was fast and the installation was simple. I tested voltage on the wires with my bilge switch set to automatic and connected the positive wire from the new unit (after turning off power) and connected the ground to the existing ground. Tested the unit and everything worked well. The hose cutouts are close together if you have multiple inlets to your sump system. Mine has one inlet for the shower drain. All hoses stayed right where they were on the previous unit with a rule 1000 pump and float switch. No new fabrication was needed for my installation. The pressure from the pump was very good and I had to add plumbers Teflon tape on the fitting to prevent the hoses from leaking. Once installed the system works great with no leaks or issues. Some people have complained the lid doesn't screw on and that is true however; this is a plus for me because I had to remove a large portion of my flooring to do the install. With the six clips I can remove the lid from the bilge access for cleaning without removing the section of flooring in the future. My flooring comes out in sections and is screwed to the boats structure so removing the flooring wasn't a big deal. I just appreciate that I won't have too remove it for maintenance on the unit. If you can carefully lift the clips holding the lid on I don't believe they will break. The best part of this shower sump system is that it's well below half the cost of the units with a rule pump. The replacement pump with automatic float switch is readily available for about $30 so keeping the unit going will also be economical. The rule float switch and rule 1000 pump were both failing in the old unit so I do not believe there is a significant quality difference between the pumps. Replacing the Rule switch and pump would have cost much more than this unit new. I highly recommend this unit.

Not happy! Pump will not set in sump right with the lid on tight...unhook center locks on lid it shut off when empty! My last buy from 5 Ocean!I installed a float switch...thanks for nothing!

Works great! It is nearly silent while it runs and uses very little power. in my sailboat shower application it had to be mounted only a few inches below the level of the shower floor and it would have been a big deal to change to a larger drain hose from the original 3/4" so the shower drains a little slow but the pump starts when there is enough water in it and stops soon after when the box is drained. It seems it must have a backflow check valve since the water stays in the outlet line waiting for another cycle. If I could have mounted it lower or used a larger hose it would have pumped steady and it can really move the water. I am very satisfied with its' operation.My only complaint is that it uses a material and design for the lid that seems certain to break before anything else. I think a redesign of the lid to use spring clips would make it worth way more than it would cost them to do.

Great unit, I installed it for drainage from a workshop shower. It's so powerful that the pump empties the attached basin after a second or two of running. The automatic sensor works great so far. If it were to fail after a year or two of regular use, I'd probably buy another one just like it.

Got this to replace the existing Rule sump that drains two head sinks and a shower in our pilothouse. Was skeptical based on the price, but after installing it and putting it through the paces I’m very impressed. Install was straight forward and easy. Pump functions as it should. Box seems high quality. I’ve removed and replaced the lid several times and after doing so I have no reservations about the clip mechanisms that hold it on. I’d recommend this in lieu of the more expensive boxes, such as a direct replacement Rule that would have run $130.
