I'm a big fan of this stovetop grill. My apartment building has the most sensitive fire alarm in the world. I have had it go off when I'm making quesadillas on my stove and I hadn't even burned anything. Since the entire building sets an alarm off in each apartment when one of the smoke detectors is triggered, I was a little nervous about trying this grill. I'm impressed that it did not produce a bit of smoke and the food came out great. You do have to preheat it. The instructions say to preheat until you can hear a "sizzle." I threw droplets of water on it with my fingertips until I heard a sizzle. For the photos I uploaded, I had marinated chicken overnight in a delicious mustard rosemary marinade and it turned out great. I also added some dried rosemary to the water ring and my apartment smelled like rosemary while it heated up and created some fragrant steam. It took about 15 minutes for my gas stovetop to heat the stovetop grill enough to hear a sizzle. Then I butterflied one of the chicken breasts and left the other one thick to test which one would come out better. They take longer than you think they will since the heat isn't concentrated like you get with an outdoor grill. I flipped over the chicken at around ten minutes and they didn't stick at all which is amazing since I didn't use a drop of oil to grease this grill (but there was some olive oil in the marinade). I used a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature and took off the chicken breasts when the meat met an internal temp of 165 degrees. Clean-up was easy. The surface is truly nonstick. The chicken came out delicious with a crisp "crust" on the outside, but truly tender and juicy on the inside. The butterflied chicken cooked faster and got more crisp since there was more surface area. Both came out great!I'm so excited to be able to grill in my apartment despite the sensitive fire alarm!

Works pretty good
I would suggest washing it really well before you use it. The first time I used it I miss read directions taking the gas stove grate off which kept putting out the flame! Duh! Finally reread directions and it worked. I did brats the first time and even though I sprayed with Pam they stuck a little and it was hard to clean. Since then it has worked fine. I turn on the stove fan.

Baby, it's cold outside so let's grill inside!
First, let me say I wish I could give this a 4.5 star review but I can't. My only "complaint" is that I wish there was a better owner's manual. The manual is a basic piece of paper with "how" to use the product on the stove top (electric or gas but not a flat-top), oven, and outdoor grill. However, I wish they could have gone into some basic recipe tips such as how long do you cook chicken, pork, beef, and/or vegetables. I read another review and saw a general time frame.Okay, so this REALLY WORKS! I cut some large chicken breasts into smaller tenders and marinaded in a Caesar Ranch dressing for several hours and then sprinkled some Paula Deen's House Seasoning on it. I preheated oven on med heat and once I could see the eye of the burner turning a slight red I put the Stove Top Grill's drip pan on the burner. I used a measuring cup and filled it the grill with water (Pic 1) right below the lip where the edge (pic 2) would lay. I let the water come to a slow boil, that's when you hear it "sizzling," sprayed the grill with non-stick cooking spray (also pic 2) and then I placed the chicken on the grill (pic 3). Pic 4 is about 8-10 minutes into the cooking process. Pic 5: I placed lid over the grill because I wanted to contain the chicken on the grill surface and not let it slide on to the non-cooking area. Pic 6 is about 30 minutes into the cooking process. Pic 7 is after about 40 minutes. Pic 8: I coupled the grilled chicken with a homemade sunflower bacon salad. The chicken tastes great...the pieces that stayed in the center of the grill seemed to cook and char faster but the ones that cooked over the vents seemed to have a more moist texture to them. During the cooking process I added more water about 20 minutes into the drip pan to prevent it from drying out.As a previous reviewer mentioned: The cleanup was a breeze. I used non-stick cooking spray; which could have made it easier. The entire pan and grill look just like it did when it came out of the box. There is a slight and I mean very slight discoloration on the bottom of the pan where it came in contact with the burner heat. I am clinically diagnosed OCD and it's so small that it doesn't even bother me. It's the hue you would see after you use pots and pans for a while. Regarding a smoke effect because you're grilling...there was none while I was cooking. I could hear the water/meat sizzling but no smoke. The only time I got the slightest hint of smoke (actually a light fog if you wish) was when I was trying to rearrange some the chicken. I accidentally hit the grill hard enough that some of the liquid from the drip pan spilled out and made contact with the burner element.I priced several indoor grills and some were $50-100. I saw this one and read some reviews and it was being promoted as Amazon's Top Choice. Now I know why. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in grilling indoors. I can't eat beef and pork so I will only be using mine for chicken. I plan on trying some vegetables and my next endeavor will be to use it in the oven. I may come and do an update if/when I do that.

Cooks just like a outdoor grill
The media could not be loaded. I got this because I recently moved to a new apartment and my new place has a closed in back/front porch. I like to grill out during the summer. I am unable to put a grill out on my porch. I am on the 2nd fl and dont want to have to be running up and down the stairs to bring stuff out. Unlike my last residence it was a open porch. So I was able to grill out on my porch. So, far I made a steak, hamburgers and made some ribs. All of it came out good and taste just like I cooked it on the grill. Now, to get that charcoal grill taste. If you haven't heard of liquid smoke... get it. It makes a big difference. It makes the food taste like it was cooked on a charcoal grill. I used Wright's Liquid Smoke Hickory. You can mix it in your marinade or rub it on your food before you cook it. I love this stove top grill. Now, for all the negative reviews on this grill. This is why I dont go by anyone reviews. I chance it for myself. Please read the instruction booklet that came with it. This is a smokeless stove top grill. You can use it on gas and electric stove. Read booklet for how to use it on both stoves. If you got the fire blazing up high it will smoke, so you will need to turn the fire down and it says that in the booklet. I also take the battery out of my smoke detector before I cook. The top is non stick but it also says to oil the grill top to prevent smoke and food from sticking to the grill top.So, there you have it. My personal review and use of this grill. It worked fine for me. I think with all the negative reviews, they may not know how to cook LOL and maybe thats why the grill didn't work for them.
