Lovely little machine
My mate spent £500 on an HP laptop for work, which kind of licensed me to spend decent money on one too, to my mind. So i spent £700 on a 14", i5, 250gb ssd one of these - and i absolutely love it. If it hadn't been for work use, i would have wanted one of the models with a discrete GPU, but had i done i would have been gaming not working..!! I love the fingerprint scanner, the touchscreen is an absolute game-changer in use, and speeds things up no end. Videos etc. look great on the screen, backlit keyboard is very useful and a nice touch. My silver version looks great and is nice and sturdy, though folding it into a tablet does feel like a strange thing to do. Obviously it's very new, so not cluttered up with stuff, and as such it is very fast indeed, with new tabs coming up on the instant. Having read up, down the line i will probably look to upgrade the ssd to a Samsung evo, as the Hynix ssd in the Inspirons is apparently an area Dell look to keep down costs on, and is 40% or so slower than a Samsung. It's not noticeably slow though, like i say. Sound is actually pretty good, though things like upping the base pretty quickly push the speakers to cope. All in all, i love this smart, fast little machine and would absolutely recommend it as being a lot of laptop for the price and beautifully designed.

Oh my days. What a god's send. Fabulous. Fantastic.
It was a no brainer. 14in Dell touchscreen 2in1. What? £500? Are you sure?......OK add to cart, proceed to checkout.......On my god, what a beauty! Lovely design. Feels really expensive. Filp it open, switch it on, hello heaven. MSOffice, Adobe Photoshop, Bridge. Off we go! 8GB RAM hardly breaks a sweat. SSD is super fast. Even has 3 USB 3.1 and USB-C and HDMI for external monitor. The keyboard is slick, backlit. The finger print reader is top class. The camera is fine for a £500 laptop. The touch pad is smooth and accurate. The screen is crisp and clean. Renders colours beautifully. Such fun to use in laptop mode and tablet mode. Battery life is beyond sufficient. Why doesn't everyone make 2in1?. I have a Surface 4 already by that was £1275 and a MacBook Pro 13in which was over £1100 (no touch screen)! With Windows 10, this Dell 5482 (verified by service code on the base) is remarkable value. But where this Dell 2in1 is supreme, with no competition whatsoever is expansivity. You can upgrade almost everything. There is even a free space for extra SSD and upto 32GB RAM if you are mad enough to need it.What are the negative points? Did not have an active pen in the box. But do you really need one?Wow. Thats all I can say.

Impresive piece of kit but not perfect
Having run two laptops to the end of their lives this year I needed an upgrade in performance. The inspiron offered just that, in a compact size. The weight may be heavier than competitors but I realise that this serves to give a great battery life, and it is not noticeable when in my rucksack. screen is lovely, and back lit key board is nice. computing speed is good and it can handle an expected amount of workload. its very thin and the touchscreen is awesome, didn't know how useful it was until I had it...Downsides are that it looks a lot like a mac, I think it looks like a mac wannabe... however it is not a mac, build quality is lower, my space key squeeks, and the case is plastic that looks like painted metal

Great laptop
I've had this laptop for a bit over a year now and there's nothing really to complain about. It just works. Fingerprint reader in the power button is extremely convenient and accurate. I never needed to use any alternate sign-in option. The screen is clear and the touchscreen works well, including a Surface pen (had to purchase separately). Tablet mode also works well. Battery life is plenty good. Some people complained about WiFi, no problem here. Processing speed is sufficient for any home office work and multimedia, even for a bit of gaming (Hitman, Diablo III, Mud Runner, Skylines, RCT3) on medium details.

Works well for a while!
The laptop is great for a while but after a few months it starts to crash a lot, either a ram issue however for a new laptop and only using web browsers its seems very odd as meant to be a decent spec.

Avoid
Junk. One major and one minor problem, fingerprint sensor only works sometimes, very annoying but could live with it as alternative options are available - pin or password. Also very slow to wake up from sleep/hibernation. Also livable-with, except this is an £700 Dell. But showstopper is the wifi, which frequently shows no internet access, yet other devices connected to same network have no difficulty. And this is with laptop positioned 1 metre from network devices! Extermely dissapointing, if it were still within return period I wouldn't hesitate. This is not my 1st Dell laptop but it will be my last. [Edited just to correct price paid]

Returned
Returned as no connection to wifi. Some previous reviews mentioned about that.

Best balance of quality and performance against cost.
A lot of quality for the money. Great touchscreen. System runs smoothly and swiftly.
