Expensive but does the job. Great customer service
The city told us we had to use intumescent paint to meet fire code on our RV awning needing to be back permitted that was installed by a previous owner 20+ years ago. After doing a lot of research, picked this one as it seemed to be the only one that was good for exterior use. We live in the desert where summers get over 115f. It went on well, some chunks that had to be taken out of the sprayer which annoyed the painter but other than that; went on nice and smooth and looks nice. Note that most of these paints have a required mil thickness to pass firecode and almost all of them require a ridiculous amount of coats. Luckily the city didn’t have a mil thickness requirement.. especially cuz my structure is not flammable anyway… steel. But have to do what you’re told when dealing with the city. Reached out to the company a couple of times and they were absolutely wonderful. Expensive bit but worked great. Customer service, fast to respond and very helpful. Would highly recommend.

Safety reasons for up grading !
Easy to apply and when dry does not easy come off or chip in my rebuild upgraded chimney chase for my new gas fireplace. Good to have or purchase for combustible areas.

Good fire retardant product but difficult to apply and the finish is flat not satin
The only reason that I am removing one star is that this product is one of the more difficult paints to apply. It is thick, even after the required shaking and stirring, and you really have to work the brush and roller to get adequate coverage on the first coat. It dries fast — almost too fast — I found it helpful to clean my brush or roller repeatedly during application to prevent them from gumming up. The second coat goes on easier than the first, but it is not the usual degree of easiness of a second coat of paint over the first. So be forewarned. Not for the painting feint of heart. The only other issue is that the company states that the finish is “Satin” and it is dead ”Flat”, not “Satin”. We will be doing a third coat of BEHR exterior Latex Enamel with Flamecheck M-111PA fire retardant additive to get the finish coat look and easy cleaning finish we are looking for. From a fire preventative standpoint though, the Andek Flameguard product seems to be one of the better ones, and it is pre-mixed in the white paint, which is convenient.
