Aussie Wine History in a Palatable Read
Entertaining Australian wine industry read.A great deal of Australian winemaker, vineyard, business, viticulture and consumer drinking trends from the 20s through the 90s. A joy to read without being laden with technical jargon but just like the title states this is a look at wine from a historical perspective not a buyers guide.Nine chapters that take you through the Aussie wine community:1)How wine changed Australia2)In the vineyard3)In the winery4)Wine education & research - Women and wine5)International influence on the Australian wine industry6)Pioneers-winemakers,regions,vineyards (cooperation & collaboration)7)Introducing Australian to Australian wine-politics8)Australian wine business9)Selling Australian wine overseasNotes:Major players within the industry (winemakers, distributors, viticulturists etc.)Recommended reading for beginning through well informed. Since I had read only a few books on Australian wine but not much at all about the business and history side this was a fantastic entry. It certainly sparked my interest for more reading material on this subject that I purchased three more books on the subject by the time I finished the last page.

A terrific read for anyone remotely interested in the story of Australian wine. I enjoyed reading the background on the great Australian wines and was very interested to hear how the wine industry transformed from the 1960's to the 2000's. Much of which I experienced, as a consumer, but never really understood the driving forces. It makes me wish I had paid more attention at the time and made more of an effort to enjoy the great wines that were available then at much more reasonable prices than today!
