Can this pump be hook it up to a refrigerator with icemaker to supply potable water continuelly without switch on off the pump?

Yes, this is how we are using it, and it works fine. The pump automatically runs when water is actively being dispensed by the refrigerator, then shuts off. Note that you may need to remove any inline filter from your refrigerator. Also, one thing we didn't know is that both bottles empty at the same rate, so both become empty at the same time.

On a sing installation, is the pump activated?

For this model, it is designed for two bottles' use. If you want to use it for single bottle temporarilly, it can be workable but the suction end of the outer wand without float sensor needs to be plugged up. Only the mid (inner) suction wand is with float sensor.

Can this pump 60ft from a basement?

Yes, you can put the pump in a basement. Just need a longer discharge tube of 60FT (Diam: 1/4 Inch).

Can I shorten the suction tubes? What fittings would work for that?

Yes you can shorten the hose length. But keep in mind that you will need some extra tubing length to change your water bottles unless you have no interference. Mine is under kitchen sink so I need the factory length
