What's going on with Spypoint lately?
Update: I'm bumping it up slightly from 1 star to 3. Reason for this is that I have switched to Lithium batteries and am no longer having the quality issue shown in the attached photos. That being said, I do run rechargeable alkalines in all of my other cameras so if I want to stay that route I'll have to shop around and see if I can find a good set of Lithium rechargeable AA's. For now just running straight up Energizer Lithiums and no longer having that issue. Camera has been out since late June 2020 and it is Oct 18th today. So far so good.I have a lot of cameras out. 22 right now to be exact. I have in the past been a huge fan of Spypoint cameras but this one has me a tad disappointed. Actually this one and the Spypoint 2-N-1 which is even worse. I've also owned Spypoint G5's (several, and they were decent to OK) and G7's (about the same as the G5's). My first Spypoint cameras were G4's. More on those below...Let me start by stating that 7 years ago I bought four Spypoint G-4 cameras. This particular model of camera is in my opinion the BEST sub $100 camera ever made. As mentioned above, I have 22 cameras out right now with 6 different brands represented in that group. Over the years I've tossed out, given away and replaced well over a dozen cameras that either just quit working or didn't work very well to begin with. This may be the next one on the chopping block, and I have two of them. Going back to that G-4, I still have all 4 of them and all 4 still work just as good as the day I bought them. They have taken tens of thousands of pictures each. They've survived torrential rain, a tornado, snowstorms, bears, a beaver chewing down the tree it was on, 100°F to -40°F temps in NW Minnesota and even a woodpecker (one has a hole in the sensor. I thought someone had shot it with a pellet gun or something until I saw the pic of the woodpecker whacking at it.. and it STILL works just fine!). The G4 has great battery life, is super easy to set up and is absolutely rock solid durable. The Spypoint Force XD is no G4. Not even close.Let's start with the battery life. On the G4 I replace the 8AA batteries every couple of months. I would say on average that I get 750-1000 pics off of each camera per week so if I were to guess I'd say around 10,000-12,000 pictures and batteries need to be replaced on the G4. The Force XD seems to need new batteries every 2-3 weeks (it also uses 8 by the way) so around 3000 pictures you need to replace. Thing is, they aren't dead yet. They will still show as 70ish percent battery life remaining. The problem is that once the batteries get to that point it goes into what I call "Predator vision" mode. If you've seen the movie Predator from the 80's with Arnold Schwartznegger then you should know what that might look like. In case you don't, I've attached some "pics" to give you a clearer idea. After battery life is the picture quality. Daytime and nightime pics are "grainy". No true definition on anything really. It's like the graphics from an old original NES compared to an XBox. Just poor quality all around. Then there's the aforementioned "Predator Vision" which is flat out unacceptable.Set up is nice. I do really like how easy it is to set up and operate. I like how easy it is to swap out SD cards and I like the overall looks and case but that's about it. The camera part of this camera is the problem. After hitting a Grand Slam with the G4 it seems to me Spypoint has been going downhill ever since and with this one just struck out swinging. 1 star.

You get what you pay for
Bought as a cheapish first time nature cam, and it didn't disappoint - it is cheaply built and performs in like fashion, although it has whetted my appetite for something more professional.
