Can i buy juat the J brackets that mount to ladder and hook on?

Maybe but not sure. These mounts to the boat are secure and strong.

David ... mine was installed on my pontoon boat by a friend. He went under, I was on the deck. The two hooped brackets need to be very carefully placed so that the ladder is exactly where you want it. All of the rest of the hardware went below deck. Drill holes from above first so that the exact location is known. I do not have all of the answers, because this is not my thing either. My recommendation is that you recruit a handy friend to help you out. That's what worked best for me. This really does hold the ladder in place well. Good luck! Sorry that I am not more help to you.
