PERFECT for everything - client mtgs to hiking!
Favorite bag EVER!! Bought this as a replacement for the same exact bag that I got many many years ago. The handles had just started to show age. The improvements made over the yea are GREAT!! zippers work perfectly. Easy to wear as a crossbody, over one shoulder, carry by hand OR the awesome backpack!! Holds a ton and pockets and dividers keep everything organized. My ONLY negative is that the inside lining doesn’t always stay in place do sometimes flops around inside the main compartment. But if you have a folder, datebook, iPad or computer inside then everything stays in place perfectly. I use it for work and for hiking in the wilderness! I get compliments constantly!

In love with my traveling office!
2024 UPDATE: Still using the Soleil with no problems. Some of the fake leather came odd the grab handles and the bag fabric is a bit slack & baggy from wear. That is literally the only deterioration over 8 years.FURTHER UPDATE: Sherpani sent me a gift certificate for a new backpack (like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sherpani-Womens-Soleil-Backpack-Forest/dp/B07GR2PLJF/ref=lp_2210531011_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1566799814&sr=1-3&nodeID=2210531011&psd=1) and this one continues the tradition of looking good and being awesome. I'm now carrying a laptop, a keyboard, TWO mice, a mouse pad, a bag of small peripherals, and a makeup bag, and they all just disappear inside without distorting the clean shape at all. I still wish for more zip pockets inside, but am consoled by the elastic end pockets both inside & outside. Plus the two outside zip pockets.17 MONTHS LATER: a piece of hardware broke, making a backpack strap unusable. Sherpani customer service are checking to see if buying it from amazon means I am or am not within the warranty. I am a bit grumpy but still using daily. If I had to carry my laptop this month though I'd be pretty mad.ONE YEAR LATER: I continue to love this thing passionately, have used it daily since my last review, and it's still in great shape. I've washed it three times so far. Last weekend, I took it for a hike & then leaned it--this white fabric bag--up into the wheelwell of my husband's car. What can I say, it seemed like a good idea at the time? Anyway, I took it home, emptied it, scrubbed at the stains with a laundry stain remover, and ran it through the delicates cycle. Stain came out. Today I took it to the park & a child got her chocolatey hands on the outside while helping me get my iphone out. Scrubbed it with a wet washcloth, and whaddayaknow? Stains came out.None of the seams have given out, none of the zip tags have come off, all the zippers still run really well, and the webbing hasn't frayed. The fabric looks new. The ONLY, ONLY thing I would change is maybe throw in a few inner wall zip pockets. Or just put zips on the ones that are already there--I've had to stuff it with pouches for all my junk. But maybe they ran out of unobtainium? Who can say?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I've had this bag for 3 weeks and I'm nuts about it. Let's get this off the table first: yes, it's expensive. HOWEVER. It is so well made! The short handles are webbing. The long strap is webbing, and the adjustable buckle doesn't slide. The long strap also can't twist, it has spinning attachment points. The zip tabs are sturdy. The backpack straps are adjustable and nicely padded, and they tuck away neatly into their own pocket, which closes magnetically and also holds my house keys + a grocery bag. There are small open exterior pockets at each end (not quite comfortable for a bottle; good for glasses though) and two zip pockets on the opposite side, one perfect for a small cosmetics bag/accessories, another for keys or keycard/subway ticket. The interior has multiple pockets (wallet/checkbook/tissues) and a padded open compartment that is just big enough for my HP. I can also just barely fit in my computer charger and a large trackball.I like a little more organization, so I also got this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WMW8NE/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_1for the inside, and it holds tampons, iphone charger, fitbit charger, headset, hair doodads, pens, and notebook. The white fabric does show stains, but wipes clean easily, and the black fabric doesn't have any problems so far from being set down in various grungy places. The inside fabric is a lovely glossy neutral stripe. Lastly, one side of the bag will zip open to allow the whole thing to fit over a suitcase handle.I've haven't let go of this thing since I moved my stuff into it. They may have to bury me with it.

Best as a tote, not great as a backpack
This is a great bag if you’re concerned about security while traveling. All the zippers are lockable/securable, there are plenty of straps to carry in a variety of ways (by hand, over your shoulder, or as a backpack). I was hoping to use mostly as a work backpack that can be an over the shoulder tote when traveling (I have a different travel backpack). The top of the backpack straps attach too low to be a comfortable backpack carry, resulting in the top of the bag leaning too far away from the body. Also the laptop pocket is cut diagonal so is too loose. Additionally as a crossbody or in hand tote, this was too long for my petite (5’2”) build. It didn’t work for what I want so this is going back.

Held up well through 3 countries in Europe
I bought this bag mainly because it pretty closely fit the dimensions for an under-seat bag on Lufthansa Airlines (which is incredibly small) and for the fact that it could convert from a backpack to a crossbody to carrying it as a tote bag. I recently took this bag on a 10-day, 3-country trip through Europe and it held up fantastically.10 Stars to Sherpani for the lime green interior lining!!!!!! Most bags use a black interior lining and it is like looking into a black hole. The lime green interior made it easy to find things, even if they were at the bottom.Another 10 stars to Sherpani for the deep side water bottle pockets!!! I could bend over with the backpack on and my water bottles didn't fall out. In addition to water bottles, the outside pockets fit an umbrella or a pair of foldable headphones. There is a lot of room in this bag. Inside the bag, I had a 9x10 travel purse which had my phone, 2 pairs of glasses, passport, billfold, tissues, comb, lipstick, chapstick, and mirror. Also in the main interior pocket, I had several chargers, face masks, 2 pens, medicine, a bag with feminine products, and a makeup bag. In the two zippered outside pockets I had medications, tissues, gum, mints, earbuds, and a couple of snacks. I clipped my travel pillow on the bag as well. The luggage handle sleeve was also a bonus. Once we arrived at our destination, I took the purse out and mainly used this bag as a backpack for day trips and sightseeing with plenty of room for souvenirs, hat, gloves, etc.It rained on us almost every day and the bag held up beautifully. 3 other women in our travel group saw the bag and promptly ordered one for the same trip.My only concern with this bag is that the clips for the straps seem pretty flimsy and I was worried they might break during the trip. At this price point, this bag is competing with Travelon and Baggalini bags which have much sturdier carabiner clips with safety locks. I'm surprised given the other safety features on this bag that Sherpani hasn't upgraded the strap clips. Overall this is a great bag.
