I enjoy camping. And the outdoors.We also sold our tent trailer last year after our poor truck was totaled, hence have to condense our camping gear once again.What's more useful than collapsible camping gear that doesn't take up a lot of room?Introducing this handy lantern/flashlight - It's small, waterproof, and sort of mighty.This handy device is pretty compact when pressed into flashlight mode as pictured, you can see it literally fits in my hand.I have used it several times, and have not run out of power yet - apparently it gets up to 10 hours of light and would be handy to have in case of an emergency - like a black out. It's definitely bright enough to get me from a tent to the washrooms late at night while camping.With 3 modes of light for the flashlight - low, high, and flashing - I could see this coming in handy in the car or while cycling near dusk as well, especially when it's on flashing mode to indicate there is an emergency.For camping, it can be charged via the sun - so pending it's not an overcast rainy trip, you will be guaranteed light!It also has its own USB cord, and can not only plug in to charge, but also can serve as an emergency charger for your phone! How handy is that when you're in an emergency situation (like forgetting to charge it, take too many pictures and use up all your phone power while camping). It charges my phone up to 50% from 5% - so this is suffice to get a normal person by - especially in an emergency!Another neat feature is the handle for the lantern itself - it makes it easy to carry around. It's not the sturdiest plastic, but as long as you treat it gently, it should last awhile.Speaking of the lantern - expanding from flashlight to lantern mode requires some patience - it sticks, and doesn't pull apart easily. But if you pull it apart too quickly, I can certainly see the plastic part of the lantern tearing. It just doesn't seem too durable.Overall, I absolutely love this concept, however, I feel the plastic on the handle and lantern should be more durable and it should convert from flashlight to lantern easier - especially for its purpose.*** I received this product at a reduced cost for my fair and fabulous review ***

This is a very bright light. It can light up a large size room to a reasonable luminous, even on the low setting. It is a great device as a flashlight and as a lantern. It fully charges in about 5.5 hours when connected to a USB device. I have not tried to charge it through the solar panel.There are some flaws with the light, and that is why I gave it a 3 start rating.It is very difficult to open it from flashlight to the lantern position.The green plastic cover for the USB port was hanging loose when I received it, and it did not fit the opening. I tried to snap it back in place in every possible way with not luck. So, I ended up removing it totally from the side of the unit. The person who put the light in its box couldn't have missed this issue. I assume they just didn't care.The lantern cover bellows is not going to last long. It looks like it is going to tear after a few uses.Update - 2016-04-03 =Seller sent another unit which is in very good working order. This proves that the seller stands by their product and provides excellent customer support.I tested the solar charger and it works very well. As a matter of fact, the unit does not need to be under direct sun to get charged. I noticed that the charging indicator light illuminates, indicating the battery is being charged, as soon as it is exposed to any light. I have even tried it under a desk lamp, and it starts charging. Of course, the brighter the source is, the faster it completes the charge cycle.Very nice and very useful light for all occasions.

I bought one of these for a grandson who was hiking the Appalachian Trail. It's compact, lightweight design made it very useful, and the handle made it easy to hang inside his his tiny tent or other shelter. However, it did not work as well as expected for charging his cell phone. For that, he had to use outlets at the more formal shelters provided along the trail. He hiked for only about a month, so it wasn't a matter of the charge feature failing after an extended period of time.I also gave one to my son-in-law, this past Christmas. He and my daughter live in Rochester NY, and recently experienced a wide-spread power outage. This lantern charges even on days when the sun is not out, and it provided them with a bright but not glaring light (softened by the translucent accordian-like sides) for the 4+ days they needed it.I STRONGLY urge every family to have at least one, and preferably several solar-powered lanterns in their homes, in case of power outages. These are much safer than candles (although in my home, I DO use those, sturdily secured in some cases.) This type of lantern can be carried anywhere, set where needed or hung up, to help reduce the sense of gloominess and make it easy to find whatever one needs, when other light is unavailable. I also find them very useful for looking into unlighted closets or going outdoors at night, for instance, to find some item left in the yard or garden. They also are safe even for the youngest child to use.

Bought this for a deployment and it was phenomenal! The solar charger seemed to work well in comparison to many other solar type devices. Charges decently and charges my almost dead phone to about 40% from a full charge. The three light options were perfect with the brightest option providing a great amount of light. the build is very creative and useful! I used the hell out of it, daily outside in very rugged conditions, even through a few sandstorms and rain. I gave this a 4/5 because I think the only drawback is the material, although it stayed I 1 piece, notable wear was evident pretty early. the lantern plastic could be stronger or of stronger material as that started to cringle and loose its integrity. The handle is a great addon but could be made to not dislodge as easy it currently does, not that i'm man handling it but a small bump and the handle would separate from the body. Other than that this is awesome!

Il m'arrive de voyager dans des contrées ou l'électricité n'est pas toujours présente. Cette lampe est vraiment astucieuse et éclaire suffisamment pour lire ou vaquer à de petites activités. Très bien aussi pour le camping ou pour aller à la cave.

Easy to charge with bright light (about 3-4h at max lighting) but the product is not charging anything when you plug in, does not hold charge for a cellphone or anything else.
