Excellent Lightweight Gaming/Productivity Laptop - Not perfect, but very high quality!
First of all, let me say I am sick and tired of reviews docking stars from laptops because of Windows 8/8.1. The display scaling or UI complaints that you may have with Windows 8/8.1 are NOT relevant to a review of a piece of hardware, on which you can install any OS you want, so stop docking stars. That being said, I found the 4k resolution of this laptop to be an absolute charming experience. True, the display is not perfect (One reviewer indicated the yellows had a more mustard hue than true yellow, which is true), and it may be an RGB Pentile display, but at 15.6", who cares, honestly? Everything is crystal clear, the blacks are amazingly dark, the whites surprisingly pure. The display of this device is excellent- do not let the gripes of other picky reviewers detract from your interest in this laptop. It will draw attention to itself. I've had plenty of people tell me in the 2 weeks I've owned it that they want to steal it (maybe I should be worried), because the display/keyboard just look so good! Be ready to hunt for some true 4K wallpapers to show it off.(One important thing to be aware of, the refresh rate of this display is 48Hz, meaning even at 1080p, you're capped at 48fps, always. Surprisingly, this doesn't drive me nuts in games like I thought it would, though I haven't played any FPS games yet, so that might be a different story.)On to the other device aesthetics: the Steel Series keyboard is a pleasure to use. There is a great amount of tactile response and depression distance with each keystroke. As other reviews have pointed out, the arrangement is a bit weird, but I easily adjusted to it. The RGB backlighting is an eye-catcher, though I'm not the biggest fan of MSI's software they include to customize the lighting. I can't say much about the touchpad- it does its job like any other Windows laptop touchpad (the best touchpads I've ever used were on Macbooks).I'm thoroughly impressed by the thinness of this device when considering the hardware inside of it. It's thinner and lighter than my previous laptop (an Acer Aspire V5-572G-6679) yet exceptionally more powerful. The battery life is about 2.5-3.5 hours during regular desktop usage, which was a little disappointing, though I've been able to squeeze out more through adjusting power settings. The power brick is huge, which is a bad thing considering you carry around this petite, sexy, powerful laptop, and then this massive power brick to run it since the battery life is short. If only...if only...I love the look/feel of the chassis- it's professional yet stylish. The illuminated Gaming Series logo on the back isn't gaudy like you'd expect. My biggest complaint is that it, like all black, polished laptops is a FINGERPRINT MAGNET.I am not impressed with the speakers. That's all I can say about that.I haven't used it a lot for gaming, but the experience I have with it was definitely positive. A lot of games don't support 4k with UI scaling (I'm looking at you Civilization 5!), so at 15.6" it's really hard to enjoy some games at 4k res, even though the laptop runs it like a charm. Working in the Windows desktop however has been a real pleasure. I don't struggle to see text (maybe my eyes are just better than everyone else's?). My only desire is for their to be more native windows shortcuts for window snapping. At 4k, only being able to snap left and right is a limitation. We should be able to snap to 4 corners already. Come on Windows 10 multiple desktops!Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I bought this laptop because of the hardware specs. The 4k-080 model has a 128GB mSATA SSD and 1TB hard drive, and an open slot for another mSATA SSD should you need more fast storage or want to setup RAID 0. The CPU and GPU are both beasts- just take a look at cpubenchmark.net and videocardbenchmark.netI highly recommend this laptop if you have the budget for it, or, like in my case, are looking for a replacement for your gaming desktop to take with you on the go. (I was fortunate to find a refurbished model for $400 cheaper!)

Great computer for price
Great computer for price, but I feel this is due to the fact that the hardware is dated. Flimsy screen and runs hot. Most pictures and video is poor due to the fact it is 2K-4kscreen. Most internet quality does not scale well. Also base zoom is hard to see even at 300%. Will take some getting used to. Please note due to the type of screen it has a refresh rete of 48-50hz. I overclocked mine at 52(Note do not try at home you could break it as it is only made for 48). HT e processer runs hot on idle 50c and gaming 60c, heavy gaming (wicher3 or crysis3) max settings or the like at about 45fps and 30fps, the computer runs dangerously hot 70-80c. Be careful not to exceed 90c or stay at 70c for prolonged periods of time as this will ruin or lessen the processors lifespan. Take breaks you body needs it anyways. Every 30min stop for 2 min usually gets the processer to 50-60c.People with benQ monitors with 120hz will have an advantage over you but this is a older hybrid rig if you will good in all areas. Overclock with caution, I do not due to the fact it runs hot already, but you can safely go to 3.45-3.5 under spec. I feel it is not needed as most games go under settings and custom them to get balance for picture and fps. Weird to note metal computer with plastic bottom?... if anyone knows why please let me know. Thank you. Will update post soon, and feel free to ask me questions, will respond when possible as I am a gamer for work and travel a lot. This computer is a secondary unit for the record and not primary. Would use as primary but screen limitations and keyboard limations prevent pro usage. If you want to be competitive and do not mind the screen go for it. Also buy a mouse of preference and disk drive as it has a bad "taste" of mouse pad choice and no disk drive. I am not a native speaking English person and apologize for any confusion, Have a nice day.

Great machine, disappointing display.
This is an excellent laptop though the display is frustrating for several reasons. First, it's a PENTILE display! A 4k LCD display with RGBW subpixels. This is obviously to keep the display brightness up, but I can see the subpixel arrangement especially in vertical lines. From further back, most things look good, not text so much in but pictures, games, etc. I don't notice the subpixels much. And the display could be brighter. The computer is great. It's been able to handle most anything I've thrown at it. And it weighs just over four pounds! This in itself it amazing. It's a well designed computer made of quality materials. One thing to consider is that display scaling in win8 is still pretty horrible, hoping 10 is better.

Costly paperweight
Not a fan. Wifi module is shaky, steelseries keyboard can occasionally crash, and my lcd monitor cuts out on me about 50% of the time. At the time I paid almost 2k for the computer and have put well under 40 hours of slide on it and it's problem after problem. Not to mention tech support at msi is a joke. Poorly made and terrible customer service on Msi's end. Talking to the seller now about a return.

Excellent Laptop
I purchased this laptop over amazon, and I must say that I am impressed. The beautiful 4k display that is competently powered by Nvidia's GTX 970m should be enough of a purchasing point for anyone. The product is also mislabeled, stating 8 GB of DDR3 RAM, when instead it has 16 GB of DDR3 RAM. My only issues with this product is the heat dissipation, no support for custom resolutions, and the brushed metal finish that can get a bit 'finger-printy' without proper care. Consumers should also be aware of the issues window 8.1 has with 4k; being with text scaling and with game resolutions. Overall excellent purchase.

Great gaming, 4k movies and pictures. SoSo wifi.
Great machine, amazing for movie watching, 4k photos/wallpapers, good gaming, good sound system.Only downside would be the wifi module, low range, and crashes often with high traffic. I hope a future update fixes it.
