Anansi the Spider: A Tale from the Ashanti (An Owlet Book) Paperback – Picture Book, March 1, 1987

I remember learning about Anansi the spider in elementary school. This book is beautiful and colorful, and I enjoy reading it to my daughter. She loves the story and hearing about all of Anansi's sons, especially Cushion.

Caldecott Honor Bookです。ガーナのアシャンティ族に古くから伝わる民話だそうです。絵も色遣いもとても印象的な絵本です。どうして月が夜空に輝くようになったかを語ってくれます。クモのAnansiには6匹の息子がいます。旅に出たAnansiは、様々な困難に出合いますが、そのたびに息子たちが助けてくれます。Audibleで音源を購入したのですが、アフリカ系英語での朗読がこの絵本の雰囲気をたっぷりと味わわせてくれるうえに、BGMのたいこの音などが一層物語を盛り上げます。絵本だけでも存在感が大きいのですが、音源つきで是非味わってほしい絵本です。YL1.5 346語

Colorful graphics, influenced by the arts and crafts of the Anansi of Ghana (West Africa,) brightly illustrate the tale of the shrewd Anansi, spider and mischief maker, and his six sons, and how the moon came to be in the night sky. The eye-catching patterns and pictures which enliven this folktale of filial relations, rescue, and reward are certainly deserving of the Caldecott Honor. The tale is at once exciting and dignified. Adapted from the film of the same name, this stands on its own as a marvelous picture book which my two little boys love to hear and see over again.
