Q: Do all of these have the paper in the ears making a crinkly sound when you move/touch them? If so, why? It seems odd to me.

Yes, all of the plushes have the crinkly paper in the ears. This is designed this way because this plush is meant to be a baby doll/toy and it supposed to be a sensory motor function to little children. Its supposed to be soothing and "distracting" to entertain. I hope this helped!

Q: Is this item new? Does it come in the original box?

It's new but it does not come in a box. It comes in clear plastic.

Q: It says it takes a AA battery but other reviews say battery cannot be replaced. Which is correct?

Batteries cannot be replaced. All tags do not state what type of battery is used. There are no seems to open to replace batteries.

Q: Can I remove the embroidery with a stitch puller?

It is so tightly machine stitched on that I would be concerned it would rip the fabric/fur of reindeer. A suggestion would be to stitch what you want on a separate fabric/fur and attach it to the hoofs of reindeer.
