Yes there’s a fair amount of movement that allows it to be positioned to create shade

Q: Does the umbrella have a crank handle to open and close?

No its like a normal umbrella you unfold, zip up the canvas then lift until the central pole meets the catch. Once pole has engaged to catch its up.

Q: Does this parasol come with a protective cover for when it's not in use?

It comes with a cover made of the same material as the parasol. Ours has been out over winter and is fine.
