A well-written and interesting look at the life of a boy growing up along the truck route in Pakistan where drivers' trucks are decorated with the wonderful paintings done by true folk artists. The illustrations are excellent, and the story itself should delight any child as well as the adults in his/her life.

Pakistan truck art is one of a kind art form practiced no where else, done painstakingly by specialist. Mostly found in the northern province of Pakistan which used to be known as the North West Frontier Provence named so by the British, (during the Raj), who lost many a battle to the Pathans who reside here the largest tribe is known as Pashtuns. Fierce fighters who defeated the British the Soveits and the United States as well. 16 years later it is still engaged in fighting them in Afghanistan. Pakistani truck drivers are mostly Pathan, the truck is like a female whom he is is in lovely with.The Painting on the trucks are floral or scenic yet the sides have ornaments which women use to dress up their braided hair. People bring their trucks to these shops in what today is known as Khyber Pakhtun Kaw, hundreds of thousands of rupees are spent to decorate the new truck. It's the pride of the owner and its driver, is kept spotlessly clean. The rear has a scenic view with some poetry written across it or a portrait painted of a national hero. Foreigners are fascinated by this unique art form. It's not formatted,free hand expression with no two trucks which look alike. Rashid Zaidi
