heated product.
I bought this for my back and shoulder problems. When choosing which red heat lamp I wanted I looked at many and even the one below this from philips, but bought this one as it was cheaper than the one below in size. It can swivel up or down but not by much, and is best used on a table with the person sitting in front of it for back neck and shoulder complaints. If using it for knees, legs etc a pair of suntanning glasses would be needed as the light is very bright and can hurt the eyes if you look at the light. Since using it I have felt the difference in pain. A red heat lamp was suggested by my neuroligist for neck shoulder and back pain, this one is great. I use it lying down on the bed with my back towards a dining chair with the lamp on it. It works in installments of 15 minutes.

Very effective portable heat lamp
Well, I paid thirty-odd pounds for this at Christmas - much less that it is advertised for today. At that price, its a bargain. I have used it a couple of times on various running induced injuries and it appears to have made a difference. Of course, I have not undertaken any double blind clinical trials so who knows! The timer is useful but does not connect to the lamp in any way so is far from a safety device. The lamp front screen gets very hot so be careful not to touch it - and keep all air vents very clear. You obviously have sometimes to go to some lengths to find a suitable angle / table / ledge for the lamp and the particular body part that you want heated.Overall, a good purchase for the price.

VERY Disappointing piece or equipment for the price
It is not that it does not work - it does BUT with the Philips name on the box I am expecting superior product, not one that comes with instructions that makes you think that Philips did not actually make it but it had instead been bought in from a low cost source and re-badged. Perhaps it has. Anyway the instructions are one of those multi language booklets which start off with 3 pages of "DONTS" in a readable font, followed by 3 pages of the instructions you really want to read in a much smaller font size, so small that it is more difficult to read, followed my a specification page which leaves out the important (to me at least) bit, namely what size/fitting of bulb you need to replace with as and when the current one dies. Worse still the section labled "lamp" has the following warning "Do not attempt to replace the lamp if the lamp stops working". On inspection there is no obvious way in. On the face of it a conciliatory "If the lamp stops working during the guarantee period .... contact Philips Support" sounds a little more helpful, until you realise that nowhere does it tell you how long that period is.Further research in the even smaller, multi lingual "Guarantee" booklet with print so small that it is impossible to read without a magnifying glass (that should tell you something), reveals that it is 2 years. So if the bulb dies after 2 years, you are stuffed. Unsurprisingly for the £50 paid I am expecting to get at least 10 years use, so equally unsurprisingly, it is going back.Other disappointments: there is no built in timer so no having a read whilst you are having your heat treatment, you need to keep your eye on the clock: and although you can tilt the lamp back about 30 degrees, you can't tilt it forward which scuppered my idea of plonking my arm that needs the heat treatment on the table beside the lamp; and last, but not least £50 for a plastic box with a switch but no timer, to contain a £3 lamp is way, way over the top.

Highly recommend this product by Phillips
The Lamp arrived on time, well packed. Phillips is a realiable brand and I started using the lamp for my aches and pains and its doing a wonderful job. I remember having one of these as a child at my parents place, and it was a Phillips. I like the modern version with the handle on top to shift it up and down according to your need. I highly recommend this product.

Unfortunately I tried two of these, and both were faulty.
I suffer from quite severe M.E. and Fibromyalgia, and am always in pain...everywhere! I use hot water bottles on my back and neck, but thought the technology behind these lamps might be a better bet. Unfortunately, the first one I got rattled a lot when you tipped it over at any angle. It sounded like broken glass or plastic. There was also quite a loud clunk, like something was loose inside. I turned it on for a few seconds and it did work, but I felt that it was too much of a risk, considering it was an electrical product. Amazon replaced it for me, but unfortunately the second one did exactly the same thing! I telephoned Philips, and amazingly, got put straight through to a really helpful and knowledgeable guy, who assured me that these lamps should not make any noise at all, no matter what angle they were held at...he actually went off to try one of a similar model that they had in their office! He was suprised that this model was still for sale, as apparently they stopped making it two years ago, and now do not make any of these heat lamps. He suggested I get my money back.....still in pain....still looking!

A little expensive yes, but it used over time ...
A little expensive yes, but it used over time it will help. The infrared light needs a long period to affect muscles and isn't some kind of 'heater' that warms the back and heals it. The healing is invisible - as we know that certain light spectrum's can be body beneficial. It isn't instant - so stick with it. However, it is a drug free intervention that will benefit you if used often.
