the lost art of using a compass
I thought this book to be very refreshing and extremely useful. In our modern/digital age we have become so dependent upon electronics. This book offers great insight into learning how to use a compass. The target audience is kids and the author does a great job thoroughly teaching at their level. I thought the book was engaging and fun. I would highly recommend it

Thorough Introduction to the Compass
I was impressed at how thoroughly this book covered the basics of compasses. It included everything from the history of compasses, how to use them, activities to promote compass practice, where to use them, etc. It also had some nice graphics to break up the text. I would have liked a few more illustrations in the part that actually explained how to use the compass, but maybe that will be included in an updated version of the book.

Solid Compass Book
Solid but wordy book about compasses. While marketed as a book for kids, this book was overly wordy and used some higher level/more technical vocabulary than necessary (beyond, of course, technical vocabulary for the compass and its operation). Many of the sections could have been condensed (last two chapters) and included more practical games and applications instead. Many illustrations were just okay vs enhancing the text and learning. Worksheets like to label and color in the parts or clue cards for games would have been a nice feature.
