All the Small Poems and Fourteen More

4th graders love when I read this to them.

I slowly read this book to my sons but it has tons of small fun poems about various objects and things in nature. There were some of the poems that I would read to them in varying voices. They especially liked when I would say them in a hardcore punk voice (with poems like "Skeleton" and such).If you are trying to introduce your children to poetry and teach them on how to write them, this one is good!

Loved this book of small poems. I got two copies of it one for me and one for my 9 year old grandson. He loved it!

I purchased this book to use in our homeschooling this year. I love that the poems point towards nature, which is a subject both children and adults can appreciate. I could have easily used a book of poems that were written for children using silly rhymes or phonetic structure. However, introducing the well crafted work of Ms. Worth to my children has added some beauty into our day. We start each morning reading our poem for the week. They are being introduced to concepts such as imagery and poem construction within a structure and subject that they can understand. Love these poems! Highly recommended!

I discovered this book of poetry after reading "Love That Dog" by Sharon Creech, which refers to a couple of these poems within the story. Each of these poems are short and readable unlike so many poems which are so hard to understand or relate to. The descriptions are so,that you can really create a picture in your mind. I read several to the 5th graders that come into the library at my school, and they often made personal connections to the poems. Several were inspired to write some poems of their own as part of their writing journals in the classroom. Highly recommended.

Have purchased several copies of this outstanding book. What a marvelous poet she was! Captured the essence of so many creatures and objects, etc. in few words. Read them again and again. Used them in my classroom to demonstrate metaphor and simile, too. Great springboard for beginning poets to study the craft of excellent writing.

Intended for children, but something that an adult can also enjoy. Some of these poems are Zen-like, and the drawings by Natalie Babbitt are very good complements. I give Valerie Worth's book five stars. A delightful collection.

Valerie Worth writes crisp poems, short and sweet, which tell of the minutiae of everyday things. You will read, and then notice a new world has been opened to you. Probably aimed at children, but meaningful to all ages. I have all of her works!

I can't personally say what I think about this book, as it was a present. I asked my granddaughter what she thought about this book of poems. Her response is very positive, she is 14 years old.
