Works well in Combination with Conditioner, is for COPPER, not RED
My natural color is an ashy blonde/light brown that I have colored to a darker auburn with some gold/copper in it. This shampoo and conditioner helps intensify the "copper" (or red) in my hair. I do not use it every day because I find that while it feels "okay" right after the shower the overall effect is moderately drying. I probably use it once a week. Even then if definitely keeps the red/copper in my hair visible (otherwise by week four my hair fades to a warm brunette color).I think the first misconception about this product is that it will make your hair more red. This is not accurate. It makes your hair more copper, or 'orange' if we're going to be crass about it. Hence the name, "Captivating Copper". If you have true red hair (ie closer to purple than to orange) this is probably not going to help you. However, if you're a fake red-head with copper/auburn/gold/warm tones in your hair, this product may be a good fit for you. This product deposits color very intensely. Be prepared to stand around for 10 minutes when using this system. It's not a wash in-wash out, it is a wash in stand around for five minutes wash out, repeat with conditioner. Then be prepared for your scalp to be orange for the rest of the day. Use this the day before a big event, not the day of the event. It will also stain your hands and your shower walls. The stains I did not immediately catch post-shower have not come off the walls. The stains on your hands come off in about half a day (with the application of an apricot scrub). The bottles are tremendously annoying to use and squeeze product out of - so store them upside-down whenever possible. The shampoo does less of the color depositing (as evidenced by the staining factor) than the conditioner so if you're deciding between the two get the conditioner. However I feel they work best in combination and are a worthwhile investment if you're looking to maintain the elusive red/copper molecules in your hair color with occasional use.

great product for redheads
I use a special red shade from esalon.com that is as good, if not better than what you can get in salons and they suggested the Ted Gibson line for redheads to help the color last longer. I was skeptical as I have used other color depositing shampoo's with some disasterous results. I took the suggestion from one of the other gals who wrote an opinion and mixed it in with the normal shampoo and conditioner I use and it made the color just pop. The color is even and not splotchy like some and it does have a pleasant smell.Great product!Tammy H

Meh
It's a shampoo. Doesn't seem to dry out my hair, but even leaving it on for several minutes doesn't make any difference in my color, and I am a fair coppery redhead! The packaging is pretty awful, too. The shampoo is thick (which is good, because you have to keep in on your hair for minutes at a time), and you can barely get it out of the bottle. I won't be repurchasing. It's nice shampoo-wise, but doesn't do what it promises, and for that price, it should.

great for copper tones
This is the only color enhancing shampoo I've used that works on my hair. Most are primary red and leave a pink color behind. This is a nice true copper. If you have a blue or violet based red, it might not be for you but anyone with warm tones should love it. A little goes a long way.I have also discovered it works better if you leave it on for a while. So I usually deep condition it first, then wash this in and let it sit a few minutes before rinsing. I only need to do this every so often to refresh my hair.

Works to a degree but changes the red color you have
I actually stopped coloring my hair red because it fades so fast. I used color shampoos which helped, but changed the red color I originally had. The red would stain the tub and shower liner, as well. Obviously it is dye so I expected that. I just kept extra liners from the dollar store and changed them often and used strong bleach on the tub. I just didn't like the color it turned my hair and after a few uses it would really build up and look very fake.

Love it!
I am a natural redhead starting to turn grey. I have never colored my hair. I bought this product to see if it made a difference to my unmanageable grey hair. It did more than that! It gave me back a natural looking copper color to my hair and the grey now looks like strawberry blond highlights! I use it every day with a color stay conditioner (not Ted Gibson). I love it and is very inexpensive alternative to professional coloring.

Three Stars
Works fairly well to enhance already colored hair. Won't cover over gray, though

Made my hair very shiny, but barely added any color.
I loved how my hair shined after using this, but it wasn't worth $25.00 considering it barely made a difference in my color. Will not buy it again.
