Fun little radio with one major flaw
I just received this fun little guy yesterday and have spent quite a bit of time figuring it out. Compared to its bigger brother (LC 90) it, of course, has far fewer features. However, I seem to be enjoying it more. I'm an Internet guy and that is what this is. Buyer, expect to spend some time tweeking the radio and don't set your expectations too high - consider the price point. Now the major flaw: the headphone input jack doesn't work. You need a "C to headphone" adapter ( it uses the charging input) to play. I've tried 3 different adapters with no luck. The screen shows that the headphone is connected but no sound. It is probably a software issue. If other reviewers don't have the problem I'll return it for a replacement. By the way, the sound is quite good for a small device and the TF player works well.

Primitive controls cannot manually program channels, expensive, doesn’t connect radio dead.
There is no way to input a search of your choosing. For example all other Wi-Fi radios have a search function such as for music, classical, pop, country, etc. this has none. I then wanted to manually search for a station and there is no way to input text to search only voice input which is poor and never comes up with the right channel. When channels are saved, it can take 2 minutes for the station to load which is stupid silly. I cannot even find Fox News. Also I want to listen to certain classical channels from France or Germany. You only have the country to select from then you have to scroll through thousands of channels that just have the radio call sign, not knowing if it’s news or music and what kind of music. The SIM card is useless because if you stream audio it goes through memory like water unless you have unlimited data which is expensive. I got this because it is small and portable. Sound is ok but distorts at high volume. The radio memory buffer is not good and listening to stations it blanks out to reload the buffer which is irritating. This radio is expensive and should have the minimum controls that other wifi radios have. Any other wifi radio is better than this. The 4g is only for China 4g. There is no headphone jack and no blue tooth. There is no way to change the battery so when the battery dies you have to throw away this expensive radio. The Fm radio works good and scans all channels and saves to memory. The max size for TF is only 32 gig. It doesn’t say what format it plays. Radio takes 10 minutes to connect if it connects. Today it couldn’t connect to my wifi at all. This is update Jan 2025 and the radio no longer connects to internet even though it says connected. Radio totally dead. Get ocean digital.

Battery life is horrible.
WiFi is slow, 4g is stable and downloads fast for most, battery is ok on WiFi, not that great on 4g. I’ve tried 2 types of headphones one with out mic and one with dongle no such luck. Charging is ok 2-2 1/2 hours. It does work and it works well.

Could be so much better
Having a non replaceable battery is not good, the owners manuel is poor and you will have to play with it to figure out things. Yes, no headphone jack , oh well. But it does sound really good, it takes awhile but it loads internet stations and connects and the fm works well. It looks good and appears well made. I hope they do firmware updates to improve performance.

Outstanding little radio
Works as described with great audio for such a small package; no static or breaking up of signals. Arrived fully charged and ready to go. Fairly east to connect to wifi. Drawbacks? Lack of FM antenna and quirky voice search button which hopefully will be fixed in a future firmware update. Connection to internet stations was good, less than a minute. For me, best feature is the news select button and the easy saving to favorites. Also nice to have ‘always on’ option for screen. Much to explore. As for future updates, if available, a sim card would be needed, not more than 32GB. What would I see to see added? Regular local AM to match the local FM.

So So Disappointed with This Radio - It is Crippled
Looks like this A8W is being discontinued. That is the good news. There is no reason a radio like this Choyong A8W should be so limited. No 3.5mm headphone jack, no line out jack, no Bluetooth link to headphone or speaker. NO reason for these limitations. This is a crippled little limited internet radio. With basic listening options would be OK. But it is not OK. Contacting technical support will not provide answers. Awful. A company like Choyong should be avoided if this is what they give people for their investment in time and money. This radio is a waste of both. Very frustrating. I am listening to another interneet radio as I write this that WORKS. It is very impressive (LeMega IR1). It is needless to say, not a Choyong .It just does not work well and even with firmware update multiple problems remain unfixed. It does not work with any USC-C to audio adapter I bought on Amazon. I bought several. Another waste of time and money, but I did so want to keep this radio. No reason for just bad engineering. No reason today. It is near useless as an FM radio. Just get that function out of expectations right away. It only "auto scans" the FM radio band and misses or mistunes the station. There is no way to manually enter or tune down a step to get the station. It is so frustrating. Amazingly stupid limit to function. Useless. There is no headphone function even thought this is promised through USB-C. An online search reveals many complaints and no resolutions. I have multiple pairs of headphones. None work and this radio comes with nothing. A USB charging cable only. And a manual that is nigh on useless. Awful uninformative manual considering the complexity of the radio. Website is nearly useless and uninformative too. This is just awful. This is bad for a company that is selling expensive radios. I will not trust such a poorly operated company or organization to give any value or support or functionality., I hope these guys stop selling radios. We do not need the disappointment and frustration and wasting of our time an money. Get it Right or Get OUT. I was going to give it 2 stars but it is not good enough for that even. Zero stars.
