Barbarian Chicks & Demons Vol. 1 Paperback – June 1, 2008

I found this book----and its sequels----to be fun, "hot" reads. It is clever, amusing,and relentlessly erotic. Hartmann is an excellent graphic artist whose illustration style is evocative of the late comic book master, Gray Morrow. There is a bit of a Morrow "look" to a lot of the layouts, figure poses, costuming, and facial characterizations. That is a good recommendation, I'd say, as Morrow was an excellent pencil & pen storyteller. All of these tales smack of the randy and ribald. Think of Xena & Gabrielle gone buck naked and getting "quarterstaffed" in every available orifice----and then deluged with some strange viscous substance (heh heh) in unbelievable plentitude. Think of something similar to the more outrageous of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales---"The Miller's Tale", "The Reeve's Tale"---set to comic book format in a way you'd NEVER have seen in "Classics Illustrated"! Think of the kind of scandalous (should we say "blasphemic"????) goings on of supposedly upright clergymen in the 19th century erotic classic "The Autobiography of a Flea" (oh, those friars got "upright" alright!!!! "Standing tall" and hard as steel!). All that kind of naughtiness is in full flower here----while succulent young ladies are DE-flowered right and left! And often it is enormous demons with enormous "appendages" DOING the deflowering! And, generally, these poor young girls saying "Don't!!! Stop!!!!"--initially---are soon saying "DON'T stop!!!" once their deflowerers are busily stroking away in them; "plucking their blossoms", as it were. There are "swordswomen" in this book (and the others) who usually are GETTING "sworded" (so to speak), rather than applying any steel blade to any adversary. There are sorcerer's apprentices (distaff, but of course) who get MUCH more than they bargained for when summoning netherworld creatures, and even (in one volume of this series)a Snow White who gets her furrow plowed by seven horny little dwarves in a cabin in the woods. All in all, the Barbarian Chicks & Demons series is a most enjoyable, graphically rendered, naughty romp, and unless you're a TOTALLY blue-nosed prude,you'll find, as John Lennon's lyric reads from the Sgt. Pepper song, "Being For the Benefit of Mr Kite"---"A splendid time is guaranteed for all".

[BARBARIAN CHICKS AND DEMONS, Volume 1 - Erich Hartmann - 2008] Want a deliciously twisted medieval history lesson rife with sexual degeneracy? Who doesn’t? Well, here it is, gents, and it’s brimming with page after page of great graphics and neorealist illustrations depicting some truly perverse ‘Decamerotica’. Each chapter even has a coherent storyline, sarcastic banter and a twist for an ending in most situations (not that it really matters, but it sure helps). It’s clever, concise and delivers exactly what you’re looking for when you get the hankering for filthy, smutty fun.We’re treated to naughty nuns, Inquisitors, barbarians, priapian priests, fertility spells and idols, decadent castle guards, endowed servants, scheming merchants, pagan rituals, demons, succubii, compromised virgins and female sexual predators. It’s perfect. The sexual scenarios are many, varied, graphically portrayed and as life-like as you can get in a graphic novel. And the women aren’t victims for the most part; they frequently turn the tables on the men, knowing we don’t usually think with our larger heads. Great stuff. There’s not much more that can be said without being censored or offending the ‘sensitive’ minds of some readers here, but I can honestly state that this is what you want in a digest of this type. Erich Hartmann has done an incredible job, and as soon as I finished this volume, I threw 2 more of his works in my cart. Highly recommended.

When I ordered this book I thought it was going to be nothing more than a butch of pictures. Like a gallery. But I looked in it and was surprised that it was something more. It was like reading a comic book with hot straight,bisexual,or lesbian sex in it. Either its a woman using sexual advances to outcast a demon,or getting attacked by a sexually charged monster,or a woman just getting laid by human horndogs. It centers around sex you only see in porn. The art of the book is awesome which wants you to enjoy more. I took my time reading it because I didn't want it to end. But I warn you. This book is pornograghic. Not suitable for children period! But awesome adult entertainment.

When I ordered this I was a little concerned that it wasn't porn. I was afraid it was a Heavy Metal type thing but fortunately this is straight up masturbation fodder.The art is good, there's tons of sex, and one great thing is that these stories are about WOMEN'S sexual exploits, mind you this is written for men but what I mean is that this isn't about a bunch of guys going out to get laid or abuse women, but heroines finding themselves in sexual situations in which they come out on top.The price is good too, I pay 15 or more for trade paper backs like the Gears of War comics sometimes, which makes this look really reasonable.

The book features essentially 3 stories that are broken up into 2 or 3 parts each and it alternates between plotlines as you go along. The art and the book as a whole are pretty good, but the way the stories are presented leaves it feeling a little fragmented and lacking cohesiveness. I don't want to far into details but the book is very explicit (as the cover art suggests). Don't buy it if you're easily embarrassed, or if you wouldn't want someone stumbling upon it in your house.

The art work is absolutely amazing. The story is original and well written. I enjoyed the first volume very much. Very pleasant surprise. Adult material. I have ordered all the other volumes that I could find. Looking forward to enjoying more adventures.

This is one hot comic. The drawings are great and the stories are exciting and sometimes funny. As a dominant female I thought this would be wrong for me with helpless virgins being raped by monsters, but the main female characters are for the most part capable, savvy, sexy, mischievous, smart and thourougly enjoying themselves. The stories are mostly about women in control who are enjoying their sexuality and not ashamed of it. It`s not femdom erotica, but I liked it a lot for what it is: A collection of short, original, sexy, fairytale- like stories. I recommend this book for anyone interested in imaginitive and sexy comics.

There are seven stories in this volume, two of 6pp and five of 7pp. They are set in a sword and sorcery milieu and are beautifully painted in watercolours throughout (the cover is typical of the art's quality).This is bawdy erotica with hardly any dark side. The stories usually feature a woman having her wicked way with men, or a woman first discovering she likes having her wicked way with men (or multi-phallused demon thingies), or they show men taking advantage of women, but then getting their comeuppance - in both meanings of the word.With one exception the women in this do not suffer, and you can tell the author is not a misogynist.

I agree with the first reviewer: the drawings are great, the print is good quality but the stories itself...male fantasies but with females being always on top of each story due to their cleverness. And there are only about 30 pages it feels like watching a movie cut after 45 minutes instead of the usual 90+.I honestly expected a bit more!

Interesting works. Nothing over the top. Some nice chick drawings.

Very explicit artwork, but the backstory(s) isn't much to talk about. All the book's in this serie is very very similar.
