Voted best TV drama ever - can't argue with that
If you've never seen this, you're really missing out. Strong language, drug & alcohol abuse, and violence from start to finish but beautifully filmed, great drama (and dark humour) and the perfect soundtrack (I'm a fan of 70's hard rock but the 21st century music chosen for specific scenes has opened my ears). Watch on BluRay with 5.1 surround sound turned up and you'll feel like you're in every scene with them. Many, many scenes (especially the cliff-hangers) take your breath away. The extras on most of the discs are great, too, although the sound and pictures of these are 2nd-rate. The menus could have been better, too, but overall, the best drama I've ever seen. Better than The Bridge and The Killing, which are excellent, too.Final tip is that when watching them, on the later discs, you can start to watch the next episode (for a second or two) and then pause it. If you then turn off your BluRay and go to bed, you can pick up there the next day without having to go through all the menus. Don't know if this is a later development and if it's now a standard but I found it very useful.Anyway, just buy the whole series now and watch it over the winter (we're now watching it now for the second time and it's still as good as the first time).

Joe's box set reviews
Hilarious. I had to keep buying the next box set ! Eventually though I got bored of watching it towards the end of season 5 as the story was becoming a bit slow. Very good.

Still brilliant but...
NOTE: although I am not planning to reveal any plot details, I cannot review this product without writing about what I perceived as a general change of tone in the series, so if you don't want to know *anything* stop reading now. What I really enjoyed about the first 3 seasons of BB was the fact that Walter came out as a really smart, really nice guy who's being dragged to the "dark side" by a combination of two things: the failure of modern society to recognise and use his talent (as brilliantly illustrated by his being forced to wash one of his student's car to make ends meet) and sheer bad luck (his lung cancer). However, as could already be felt toward the end of series 3, Walter is progressively embracing his new career as a criminal and slowly adopting the values of his drug-dealing partners (e.g. "kill or get killed"). Perhaps the writers' intention was to demonstrate that anybody can "break bad", in which case they succeeded brilliantly (not to mention that, as unfortunate as it is, they may well be right). Nevertheless, it came as a mild disappointment to me, because after a while, I could no longer empathise with Walter as much as I did at the beginning of the show.By contrast, I found myself warming up to Jessie, whom I initially disliked as a bit of a yobbish idiot. He at least remains true to his questionable but honest values and, by virtue of essentially remaining the same, gradually becomes the most sensitive and least ruthless of the pair. Again, this might have been the writers' intention but, again, it contributed to the show losing some of its appeal in my eyes.In conclusion: BB remains great entertainment, with a brilliant script, top class acting and some useful lessons in life and human nature. I just wish these lessons had been slightly different...

An Amazing Series only let down by content which is missing from the disc
Unlike most shows, where by the fourth season a lot of the magic that had existed in previous series is lost or somewhat reduced, Breaking Bad continues to get better with each season. An absolutely amazing series of a phenomenal show, series 4 sees the conflict between Gus and Walter come to a head. However whilst the series itself is top notch, this dvd box set is somewhat disappointing to someone who owns the other 3 series on dvd/blu-ray. The box sets of seasons 1-3 featured audio commentary from the cast and crew on numerous episodes with each season offering more and more episodes that have been commentated over. This commentary is often very funny, especially the comments made by Bryan Cranston (actor who plays Walter White). It is also very informative, offering another level of information to those who are interested in hearing how scenes were shot etc.Unfortunately this series features no audio commentary on any of the episodes, now you may be asking "why is this missing content" and the reason is that on the American version of the DVD box set every single episode features audio commentary. I have to ask why this was included in the American discs when it was not included in our version. However whilst I would have liked to listen to these commentaries I am aware that most people won't listen to them and if you are one of these people I can whole heartedly recommend this product, as the series itself is still outstanding. But if, like me, you are someone who enjoys listening to audio commentary then I suggest finding another way to purchase this series, whether that is by importing it or downloading it on iTunes, because the commentaries do exist, just not on the UK DVD box set.

What happens NOW – find out - right here – right now
MGM are noted for making slushy cheesy films filled with unbelievable stories of rich man meets poor girl; falls in love; and the woman gets to live a life of luxury. Not so here - MGM have broken the mould - for what you have in a gritty 'tell life as it really is' story – the sort favoured by Warner Brothers. Here is a ‘story well told’ that is filled with twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat - a story that is a 'black comedy' full of pathos, juxtapositions, intrigue, murder, and much much more as it examines the ‘dark’ side of ‘the human condition’.These are not two-dimensional characters without any depth that one encounters in many many films and TV series - these characters are real and 'true to life. All of the characters are seriously flawed; all of the characters are 'two-faced'; not one of them is 'nice' - and every character has their own 'hidden agenda' - and while you find that you cannot 'warm' to any of them, these sleazy double-dealing, double-crossing characters will speak VOLUMES to you – and make you question YOUR integrity. It is a six-star production - but I am only permitted to award five.
