The Avocado [OP]: Botany, Production and Uses

Our family farms about 2,000 avocado trees in central california, and this book is the best available for in-depth avocado information. It often gets overly academic and esoteric for everyday use and you really have pay attention to translate the non-committal academic jibberish into practical management techniques, but as far as college textbooks goes it is pretty standard in its lay person usefulness. I've read most of it now and am very happy with the detailed info presented in the book on the avocado tree itself, especially on the differences in growing & genetics in other countries/climates. I would recommend it to anybody serious about avocado growing with a background in botany as the language is pretty technical, but if you're just wanting to familiarize yourself with avocados then YouTube, California Avocado Commission or the UC websites will suffice.

It was worth every dollar. I love so much this crop and I learned a lot about the book, it helped me a lot with my thesis from college. I already had the first version of the book and there was a great improvement in the material, looking forward for the third edition.

I haven't gotten through it yet, but it definitely has all the research I have been reading plus a lot more. It is good to have all the research in one place.

An excellent book of all about avocado. Articles are a little bit technical, but the book answers alomost all the questions. As for me, lots of photos were helpful to solve problems of shrinking leaves. http://blog.zaq.ne.jp/becksdiary/
