Affordable means of restoring solar street light
Short and sweet - WHY buy a whole new solar street light for upwards of $150 (or more) when you can just pay $20 to replace the batteries?

These seem like good batteries but I could only get 62% of the claimed capacity.
I use 18650 lithium ion batteries in many projects involving Arduino type microcontroller units, solar panels, etc. They are great way of providing power in a compact form over a long period of time. These unbranded batteries looked to be ideal for my purposes. I particularly liked that they were certified by CE, FCC, PSE, ROHS, and UL standards. Unlike other similar batteries I’ve used that were flat-topped without any protection management, these button-topped batteries are claimed to have protection against overcharging, overheating, and short circuits. No mention is made about protection against over-discharge. In use, they seemed to fit standard 18650 battery holders, work well and were easy to charge. However, when I tested their capacity, I could only get a maximum about 1850mAh at a constant drain of 0.5A from each of the two batteries using a battery load tester that I have used in past that I know gives reliable results. Repeated tests on the same battery gave similar results. This is very disappointing for a battery that claims to have a capacity of 3000mAh. Perhaps the protection circuits interfere with each other but, as all my circuits already have in-built protection, I don’t think I’ll find out.

I think these are not 3,000 mAh, and really have a far less rating.
It's listed at 3,000 mAh, I bought a new light with the 1800 m a h batteries and put the new batteries in one I've already had. The mounted the same and the brightness is the same and they both run out of energy at the exact same time. These batteries are supposed to have more life to them but they don't.

Good quality 18650 batteries
I've been using these in a couple of flashlights and am very happy with them. The capacity is accurate and I'm getting good run times. They're not getting warm when charging or discharging. So far so good. Not bad for the price. Will update after a while of use.
