This drive is fantastic and noticeably faster than my prior SSD. But beware...Amazon sold me a used drive.
I love this drive and find new and interesting tidbits about it all the time. I give it a five for performance and value. However, I had my first drive for a week and couldn't figure out why the Western Digital SSD Dashboard was saying the remaining life of my drive was 95%. My testing/benchmarking had been limited and nothing strange occurred during the setup/configuration of it.Prime Member's Day occurred 5 days after I bought the 1tb version. The savings was $70 so I called Amazon and they wouldn't budge on giving me credit but the CS rep recommended I just return the old one and buy a new one, especially after I said something didn't seem right with the life remaining of the drive. The new drive was very low in reads/writes and the dashboard says it has 100% life left.So I presume someone returned my first drive and Amazon restocked it then sent it to me; bad on Amazon for restocking a SSD drive. The cummulative data written and read was showing 32TB. I was researching the first drive after install and thought it was strange but watched it as I was testing and noticed it wasn't dramatically increasing when I was running benchmarks. I thought it was just part of initial factory burn in.Upon receiving this new drive, the total Read/Writes were in the low GB range indicating that the first drive was seriously used when I got it. The prior owner must have been running benchmarks for days to get to 32TB reads/writes on the drive. TBW is rated at 600TB so I wasn't too concerned, but still. So beware when you get your drive. I used HWINFO64 to find the total reads/writes for my drive. It's a great tool to have anyway and free so please check yours and give Amazon hell if you find you've got a used one. I don't blame WD at all for this issue.

My first WD SSD
Normally I turn to Samsung for my ssd's but after comparing specs I decided on this WD black ssd for my programs drive. WD has been good to me over the years and they have a painless rma process should it be required. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one and neither should you. My software loads quickly as do games so I don't have to wait for maps to load like I did with my wd black hd.Installing it was a breeze as it just plugs into the nvme slot and has a single screw to hold it in place. I used the WD provided Acronis to clone my hd to it which did take over 2 hours in a DOS session which sucked as Micron's version of it runs in windows.

You NEED this!
With our new custom gaming rig, we got an MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC motherboard. I had never heard of M.2 drives before, but researched it since there are two slots for it on the board. I decided to go ahead and purchase a 1TB, to see if I liked it. Wow! From power button to login screen in under 14 seconds. From login to fully loaded desktop in TWO SECONDS with Windows 10! They are more expensive than a comparable 7200 rpm drive, but so worth it IMO. I liked it so much that I bought a second one for my daughter to install her games on. If you can afford it, these are the best drives around and way cheaper than the nearest competitor. I only have one question: If they can make a SSD which plugs directly into the bus, which holds up to two terabytes and communicates at up to 8Gbps, why can't they make RAM in 1 or 2 TB modules? These cost as much as two 16GB sticks of high-end RAM.

Tears of joy
I purchased this for a computer I put together back in 2015. Unfortunately, the M.2 slot I had only was capable of 2X; so I wasn't able to use this guy to its full potential... at first. I did some research and found a PCIe NVME adapter and stuck this bad boy on it. I threw the adapter in an 8x PCIe slot and my speeds went from 800 MB/second to over 3,100 MB/s. This adapter can be found here:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F9RBP5W/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_kkcICbDA4CAASJust remember, this stick can perform really fast, BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE APPROPRIATE HARDWARE FOR IT TO PERFORM THAT WAY. Make sure you do your research and ensure your computer is capable of using this thing to its potential, or you are better off paying less for a SATA SSD that runs about 550 MB/s.

Works great for OS and some games
Was easy to install and is very fast. Storage is not too bad but def going to need another SSD or HD for all your games and such. I keep Fallout New Vegas on my SSD because of all my mods but it reads and writes data fast.

Amazing in Linux
Great drive! I use it as a boot drive for Arch Linux and Windows 10. I get the 3GB/s advertised in Linux, can do a full btrfs scrub of my Linux file system (9GB) in 3 seconds, amazing. Idle temperature is at around 40°C, sadly my motherboard (GA-AB350M-D3H) does put the M.2 slot below the PCIe x16 slot for the GPU, so if the GPU is running hot, then the NVMe will be affected too. I will update in the future to comment about this.I'm replacing a faulty ADATA SX6000 (x2) with this WD Black (x4), the difference is like going from HDD to SSD. My concern is that the ADATA failed because of the GPU/M.2 situation, but other reviews seem to indicate that drive is not very good. We'll see.

WOW!!!!!
I installed this on my HP-Omen gamin g laptop. This drive is very affordable, I was hooked on SSD tech, when i had my Lite-On 128gb SSD installed, tried one game installed on the drive and OMG, Zero Load Times!!! I bench marked this drive and it came in around 1200MB/s Read and 800MB/s write, impressive as that was, I now needed a bigger NMVe SSD m.2 for ALL my games, I did some research, found this one and the Samsung EVO 970, both fairly equal in online specs, except the WD SSD drive was cheaper. I decided to go with the WD Black SSD for the price vs specs, well the box said this drive can get up to 3500MB/s Read and 2800MB/s write speeds, Well i Installed the WD Black SSD in under 10 mins, it took about 30 mins to load and install Windows and Drivers again, flawlessly, I used a Western Digital 256GB SSD Portable Drive, with my thunderbolt 3(USB Type-C) equally impressive for its size and purpose to back up and restore to my New SSD NVMe drive. Games installed and OMFG the increased performance is AMAZING! I did a Benchmark on the new WD BLACK SSD and for my specific laptop, I am getting over 2400MB/s Read and write times, I am so impressed with the noticeable performance increase!! I highly recommend this SSD for any PC/Laptop!! 5 stars all the way!!!
